Position Summary/Objective:

Head Start Programs are required to provide high-quality health, oral health, mental health, and nutrition services that are developmentally, culturally, and linguistically appropriate and that will support each child's growth and school readiness. This position is responsible for the design, implementation, and supervision of all health-related services and activities in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards.

Essential Functions: (Duties and Responsibilities)

  • Manages goals, policies, and activities designed to implement health services objectives and performance standards.
  • Works with the Director and Assistant Directors for Program Services and Program Compliance to update the annual service plan.
  • Works with Data Manager and Family Advocates to monitor data entry of all health-related assessments and follow-up in a timely fashion.
  • Monitors Health Services to ensure Federal, State, Local, and Head Start Performance Standards Compliance.
  • Establishes and implements policies and procedures to respond to health-related issues.
  • Sets up the Dental program, gives input into the Dental contract, and ensures that all HS/EHS children are screened within 90 days and receive needed treatment.
  • Plans and implements events/activities related to health services, including Health Advisory Council.
  • Compiles and completes Health/Dental information as required for Program Information Report.
  • Attends all appropriate professional and educational conferences, pre-service, in-service, and other meetings to develop and enhance professional knowledge and skills.
  • Completes and submits all reports as required to Director, including Program Information Report.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Director.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Public Health or Health Administration – Master’s preferred - or closely related field and a minimum of three to five years of experience preferably in a Non-Profit or Public Health setting.

Training Requirements:

  • In-service training is held throughout the year.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Must have demonstrated skills working in a Microsoft Windows environment and be able to use the Agency software within three months of hire.
  • Must be able to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be effective in the development and delivery of training sessions for staff.
  • Must be effective in conducting meetings.

Licenses/Certificates/Screenings:

  • Must have a valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must have reliable transportation for work-related travel, including nights and out of town.
  • Must be insurable under Step Up Suncoast insurance policies.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Must pass a Level II criminal background check.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds
  • This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Work environment:

  • The worksite will include a variety of settings based on work responsibilities including a normal office setting, client home settings, and other settings as needed to perform work responsibilities.

Expected hours of work:

  • Hours of work and days are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Employees may be called upon outside these hours to attend other functions of the position or agency as needed.

Travel:

  • Local travel between site locations and other agency meetings/training.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year

Experience:

  • Nursing: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • BLS Certification (Preferred)
  • RN (Preferred)
