Our Health Unit Coordinators are the welcoming face to everyone who comes through our Med/Surg doors. In this role you welcome patients, families and staff as well as performing a variety of clerical duties and tasks that help keep the Med/Surg unit operating smoothly. You have the opportunity to work with many disciplines in this role which make this position exciting and rewarding.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains an orderly and businesslike environment at the unit station in order to assist members of the health care team.
  • Handles unit communications, functioning as a receptionist, greeting patients and families, handling telephone communications, dispatching all emergency codes and contacting Operating Room staff after hours.
  • Communicates with various health care team members to facilitate the exchange of information needed to secure patients services or plan for patient care, such as hospital-to-hospital transfers.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate patient records; labeling, assembling and processing as indicated.
  • Schedules tests, procedures, and appointments as ordered.
  • Compile all necessary paperwork for each new patient. Register recovery patients per physician orders.
  • During times of low workload will assist the Nursing Assistants with cleaning of equipment.
Qualifications:
  • High-school diploma or equivalent
  • Medical terminology preferred
  • Strong organization skills, prioritization and a professional demeanor
Schedule:
  • 64hrs/2wks
  • Day Shift: 7:00am-3:30pm
  • Every other weekend rotation
