General Description

Performs accounts payable work. Work involves reviewing invoices along with supporting documentation to ensure legal compliance with state statutes, contracts, and internal policies and procedures; investigating and resolving discrepancies, if any; and processing invoices for payment after review and discrepancies have been resolved. Works under supervision of the Accounts Payable Supervisor and Accounts Payable Specialist III.

Examples of Work Performed

Reviewing and processing invoices and supporting documentation for payment

Verifies that adequate budgeted funds are available for payments and that expenditures are recorded against the appropriate general ledger accounts

Communicates with departments and resolves any matters related to invoices submitted for payment

Maintains abreast of Hidalgo County Purchasing Policies and Procedures and other policies and procedures of a financial matter related to invoices submitted for payment

Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed and to be determined and assigned as needed

Education and Experience

Associates from a Junior College or 1 year of accounts payable experience

Certificates, Licenses and Registration:

Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license

Must be able to be insured by the County’s insurance carrier

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of computers, related equipment and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Knowledge of a standard telephone switchboard.

Skill to interpret and apply state statutes, county contracts, internal policies, and procedures

Skill to effectively communicate with others (verbally and in writing)

Skill to type 50 words per minute with accuracy and efficient in using a 10 numeric keypad

Skill to deal effectively and professionally with co-workers, with people of all levels of the county, and with people having business with the county
