The Goodhue County Public Works department maintains 400 miles of county highways and roads so residents can safely explore and enjoy all that Goodhue County has to offer. Our Public Works department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Highway Superintendent. The Highway Superintendent oversees highway and park maintenance operations. The Highway Superintendent has a staff of 1 highway foreman, 1 mechanic, 16 highway maintenance workers and 2-6 seasonal employees.

Types of work:

• Supervision of highway maintenance crews.
• Planning and coordinating materials, supplies and equipment for road maintenance projects.
• Right of way management.
• Monitor road conditions to effectively deploy snow removal crews.
• First point of contact for resident concerns regarding road maintenance issues.

This is a summary of position responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, 8 years' experience with a relevant Public Works department, and a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL). Familiarity with Microsoft Office is also required. The Highway Superintendent must have a large breadth of knowledge in the highway construction and maintenance fields. The successful candidate will be adept at handling complex interpersonal conflicts from personnel issues to discussing drainage issues with residents. The successful candidate must have solid written communications skills to document everything from equipment specifications to budget proposals.
