Job description
Capital Digestive Care Laboratory is the largest specialty laboratory in the Mid-Atlantic states. With a focus on gastroenterology, the laboratory provides services to 30+ office and ASC locations with a growing number of referring provider offices. We are currently seeking to add a new Histotechnologist to our burgeoning team of skilled laboratory scientists to assist with our ever-expanding growth. The successful candidate will perform testing within the anatomic pathology laboratory from processing, embedding and staining of tissue specimens. Ensures proper performance of all techniques and procedures, ensures quality work and regulatory preparedness are met.
- Performs all aspects of routine histology that may include: Microtomy, Embedding, Grossing, Immunohistochemistry, Special Stains, and Non-GYN specimen preparation.
- Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.
- Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
- Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks, and slides
- Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstation.
- Demonstrates simple/complex troubleshooting skills and adheres to QC and maintenance schedule.
- Exercises independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
- Examines slides and/or blocks to ensure tissue preparation is meeting laboratory requirements.
- Participates in the education and training of students and new employees as assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Performs all duties according to the standard work procedure.
- Notifies Supervisory personnel of any issues in a timely manner.
- Maintains adequate reagents/supplies in the work area and/or on the instruments to avoid delay in sample processing.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
Histotechnician or Histotechnologist (HT or HTL):
- Bachelor’s degree and appropriate certification by a nationally recognized program, e.g. ASCP or equivalent
