COVID's impact on our society will be studied for years to come, but I mention it here, because COVID has negatively impacted our flow of Volunteer recruitment, since things literally stopped for over two years.

I'm happy to report that we are starting up again, and we need kind people, to help families in their community that are dealing with the death of a family member. Most of the time, Volunteers assist by providing Caregiver-respite, companionship, to the patient &/or Caregiver, and, finally, sometimes, errand assistance, like grocery shopping.

However, we are always honored to have people willing to share their special (licensed) skills, like Massage, or Beautician/Hair Cutting, or Pet Therapy, or energy-based modalities, like Healing Touch.

In general, Hospice Volunteers provide the extras that a family, and patient, might need, while under Hospice Care. However, being willing to listen to whatever the patient, or their family member(s), need to say, at their difficult time, is the gift that all Hospice Volunteers provide.

True, the time you give to our patients/families will not make you richer in the pocket, but it will add to the wealth of your spirit.

If you are wondering, you do NOT need a medical background; to be a Hospice Volunteer; you should have a compassion for people and a willingness to help them, as they are impacted by end-of-life issues. Because this activity involves physically visiting patients and their families, you do need to live in the area. Also, being fully vaccinated to COVID is a must (base shots and at least 1 booster).

Holy Redeemer HomeCare and Hospice is a not-for-profit agency, that was started about 100 years ago. There are several independent offices that cover NJ and PA. This post is from the Volunteer Coordinator, who manages the activity in New Jersey. We need Volunteers throughout these Counties: Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Ocean and Salem. However, Volunteers will only serve in the areas that they are willing to drive to; we try to keep Volunteers local, so they are helping families in their own neighborhood.

Families are continually screened for possible COVID exposure, as well as staff and Volunteers. Masks are required on visits, as well as being COVID vaccinated.
