  • (2 positions available)
  • Provide root cause analysis and evaluation of areas and process in the hot end which will allow the plant to maximize yields, product quality and meet budgeted costs.
  • Interact with contractors as needed to complete projects
  • Incumbent will coordinate and integrate all activities in order that plant equipment and systems are efficiently utilized/maintained. Also includes monitoring and reviewing safety/housekeeping requirements for Hot End.
  • Continuously works with plant and corporate engineering group to improve existing process designs to reduce production costs.
  • Provides consultation, analysis evaluation and review on problems of automation, advanced methods and equipment, material handling, etc. Develops and implements appropriate computer applications in process engineering.
  • Constantly alert for technological developments in the glass and related industries. Pursues appropriate developments through tests/analysis and communicates the results to interested personnel.
  • Maintains strong working relationship with other process improvers in the factory, and jointly implements hot end and coating application and developments.
  • Maintains cognizance of design and development trends as applied to safety code or other regulatory body or agency trends, and modifies and pursues long-term plans accordingly.
  • Supports department 5S initiatives
  • Help develop training relevant to improvement projects and other areas as appropriate.
  • Implement effective process control methods to sustain improvements before considering a project complete.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (or equivalent technical experience) is required.
  • Experience with Pollution Control Plant operations in a continuous manufacturing environment desired.
  • Practical experience in Batch plant and Furnace operations, Float Glass Forming, Annealing and/or online CVD coating is desired.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups in an employee involvement environment
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS office, specifically MS Excel

  • Advanced Problem-Solving Skills (Six Sigma)
  • Strong in analytical, innovative and strategic competencies

Experience

Required
  • 3 year(s): 3 years of experience in a glass manufacturing facility
Preferred
  • 3 year(s): Glass manufacturing production; glass furnaces, annealing, cutting, and conveying of float glass; automated glass handling and conveying controls using HMIS; and float glass defect identification and analysis. Knowledge of ceramic materials and CAD design systems is required.
