Klickitat Valley Health is seeking a House Supervisor to provide support for the nursing team and monitor the night shift operations. This full-time position offers 36 hours a week.

Klickitat Valley Health is a rural, critical-access hospital located in scenic Goldendale, Washington only two hours from Portland along the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge. KVH offers emergency and acute inpatient care and a full scope of ancillary services including General Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory, Respiratory Therapy, PT / OT, Behavioral Health, Dental, Pain Management, Optometry and Hospice. The hospital also owns a busy, well-established primary clinic that is located on hospital campus. Inpatient care is managed by 24/7 Hospitalist staff. KVH employs over 300 staff.

General Summary*:
The Night Shift House Supervisor is a registered nurse that supervises nursing and hospital operations on assigned shift. Coordinates patient bed placement activities for admissions and internal and external transfers. Supervises staff placement to meet short term clinical staffing needs. Responsible for activities to maximize patient flow to provide seamless admissions, transfers, and discharges to minimize diversions, delays, or denials of patients. Functions as on-site administrative representative in the absence of regular hospital administration. Supports the mission of the organization. The Night Shift House Supervisor meets the requirements of the Acute Care department RN job description and practices by the Standards and Scope of Practice for the Registered Nurse {Nursing Practice Act (RCW 18.79.010-18.79.902)}.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):

Education / Licensure:*
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active RN license in Washington State
- BLS, ACLS, PALS required.
- BSN required, MSN preferred

Experience:*
- 3 to 5 years of nursing experience in an Acute Care setting (ED, Med/Surg, ICU, etc.) required.
- 2 years nursing management/supervision experience preferred.
- Must meet/maintain RN job description requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):

Essential Functions*:
- Directs/manages hospital operations on assigned shift to ensure that appropriate patient care is provided and patient/family needs are met.
- Rounds on all patient units to identify patient placement needs, available beds with assigned staff and staff capacity to safely take additional admissions, at least once every three (3) to four (4) hours. Communicates at Huddles and directly with overnight staff (nursing, lab and radiology). Reviews current patients. Identifies pending/potential discharges. Determines capacity for and time frame for admissions. Supports regional utilization strategy.
- Coordinates with Unit Managers to ensure appropriate staff is provided on each shift to meet patient needs and maintain cost effectiveness. Collaborates with managers to initiate additional resources for planned or unplanned events. Staffs-in to ED or Med/Surg as needed during times of high volume/acuity or absent nursing resources (e.g., sick calls). Provides meal/rest break coverage.
- Completes Administrative Reports at designated frequencies.
- Ensures compliance with organizational policy and procedures and with regulatory requirements. Is responsible for reviewing and revising nursing policies.
- Coordinates with the Administrator-On-Call (AOC), the ED RN, and ED Provider the request for decision to divert ambulances if the Emergency Department has exhausted all resources to create capacity to manage additional ambulance patients.
- Anticipates potential problems and intervenes to minimize adverse impact; manages conflicts that arise.
- Assists with decedent affairs including organ/tissue procurement procedures along with the post-death process.
- Acts as a clinical resource for nursing including interpretation of policies and procedures and assisting with clinical practice issues. Supports performance improvement activities.
- Assists departmental staff in responding to and resolving patient/family questions, concerns or complaints when management team is not available.
- Assists with the on-the-job injury management program.
- Provides clinical education and acts as a Superuser during change management initiatives.
- Completes 30, 60, 90-day evaluations for new staff as well as annual evaluations for night-shift nursing staff with involvement from Unit Managers.
- Responds to and acts as a clinical resource during rapid response and resuscitation situations.
- Appropriately communicates and documents administrative, departmental, risk management and patient issues to ensure timely follow up and response.
- Coordinates with Facilities, IT and Biomed regarding equipment malfunctions, safety issues and repair needs, and ongoing patient room maintenance.
- Initiates Disaster Procedures as necessary and functions as incident commander until relieved.
- In absence of Unit Managers, addresses and communicates employee issues that arise after hours. Communicates issue and problem resolution actions to unit manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
