Job Description: Housekeeping Aide

Department: Environmental Services

Supervisor: Director of Environmental Services

General Description

  • Perform housekeeping/laundry duties in assigned areas.
  • Maintain a sanitary, attractive and orderly facility.
  • Requires operation of mechanical equipment such as washers/dryers, buffers and vacuum cleaners.
  • Includes a variety of duties that include dry and wet mopping, waste removal, wall and glass cleaning and floor care procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Background or work experience in health care setting preferred.
  • Good physical and mental health and evidence of maturity.
  • Must have skills in working cooperatively with other staff.
  • Express concern for detail cleaning.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Neat appearance and pleasant personality.
  • Must have patience and tact, and ability to interact with residents based on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.

Working Conditions

  • Well-lighted, well-ventilated facility.
  • Interacting with the general public, often in adverse conditions; many residents and their families are under emotional stress dealing with issues of illness, hospice, death, and grief.
  • Frequently changing conditions in which one must be attentive and able to respond appropriately.
  • Constant necessity to respond maturely and effectively with residents, families, staff and other professionals.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases and/or verbal abuse and injury from irrational residents.
  • Appropriately represent facility in dress and demeanor.

Duties

  • Specific duties are assigned at the discretion of the department supervisor or facility administrator and may be adjusted to meet the needs of the facility and the expertise of personnel available.

Housekeeping

  • Follow established cleaning methods in performing daily duties.
  • Request and collect necessary supplies and equipment and transport to work area.
  • Continual inspection for possible hazards.
  • Keep all floors free of debris and fluids.
  • Waste removal from all residents’ rooms, offices and nurse station.
  • Cleans equipment and returns to designated area after use.
  • Reports any work of area not cleaned by shift end to immediate supervisor.
  • Perform periodic and situational duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
  • Reports broken, damaged or inoperative equipment, lights or furnishings to immediate supervisor and completes a detailed work order.
  • Assist in answering call lights and report to certified nursing assistant or nurse.
  • Assist in transporting residents to and from dining room or any activity.

Laundry

  • Load washers within acceptable weight limits.
  • Remove linens from washers and transport with baskets to dryers.
  • Load dryers within acceptable weight limits.
  • Transport dried linens to the folding table using baskets.
  • Fold the flat pieces; fill shelves with sheets, pillows, pillowcases, bed pads, towels, and washcloths, etc.
  • Hang the dresses, shirts, etc. on mobile clothes hanging carts.
  • Bibs and table linens to be placed in large and small dining rooms throughout the day.

In-Service Education

  • Participate in all required in-service meetings.
  • Participate in selected continuing education programs if available.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and abide by established policies of the facility and interpret them to concerned parties.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information; maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Account for use of time, report sickness, and plan vacation and holiday time with department supervisor or administrator.
  • Prepare all required reports and submit to department supervisor or administrator.
  • Other specific duties as assigned y department supervisor or administrator.
