Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the HR Services Associate Director, the HR Assistant will work collaboratively with a team of HR Business Partners to perform routine human resources activities and provide general administrative support. This position will work within HR Services to support nearly 1,500 SMPH employees across multiple functional areas in Human Resources such as recruitment, compensation, and employee lifecycle transactions.

The HR Services team is responsible for providing centralized human resources services for nearly 8,000 employees within SMPH in support of this mission. We provide consultation and guidance for faculty, staff, and students on UW-Madison and SMPH policies and procedures. Responsibilities:
Performs routine human resources activities and provides general administrative support in more than one functional area such as recruitment, classification, payroll and benefits for a work unit. Serves as a resource contact disseminating information on rules, regulations, procedures, and statutes.
  • 20% Interprets, applies, and disseminates routine recruitment and staffing policies, procedures, and options to leadership and employees; recommends best strategies according to established objectives and goals
  • 40% Assists with recruitment, personnel resource allocation, new employee orientations, and maintenance of employee records according to established policies and procedures
  • 20% Prepares and organizes routine administrative communications, resources, and reports and maintains office equipment and supplies, under close supervision
  • 20% Receives and responds to inquiries in-person, via email, and through various communication mediums and relays information to appropriate entities

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Proficiency in using word-processing, databases, and spreadsheets to complete tasks and projects
  • Ability to behave calmly, professionally, and effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple and/or shifting priorities
  • Shows attention to detail, accuracy, and follow-through in communication with colleagues and customers
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to multiple points of view, perspectives, and experiences

Preferred:
  • One year of Human Resources or administrative-related experience
  • Experience using documented procedures to ensure all necessary steps in a workflow are completed


Work Schedule:

Monday - Friday 7:45am - 4:30pm or approved by supervisor.



Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% - 100%

Fully remote work available, but not required. If the incumbent chooses to be fully remote, work will be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. If the incumbent chooses to be partially remote, it is anticipated that some work will be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $20.00 HOURLY

The starting salary for the position is $20 per hour but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
