Organization Overview
At the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula (BGCP), our business is changing lives. We are a vibrant, entrepreneurial nonprofit organization that is committed to partnering with schools and the community to ensure students from low-income neighborhoods graduate from high school, ready for college and career. We are the largest expanded learning time organization in the heart of Silicon Valley, serving 2,500 K-12 students at 17 sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. In neighborhoods where one third of the youth drop out of high school, BGCP members learn the importance of education and become part of a community of learners, wanting and expecting to succeed in school. In 3 clubhouses and 14 school sites, we implement proven social and academic interventions and provide engaging enrichments that most impact a youth’s achievement in school and in life.
We are also excited to announce that we are joining forces with the two Boys & Girls Club chapters in the northern part of San Mateo County to serve students from East Palo Alto to Daly City. We are rapidly growing and seeking top talent to help us fulfill our commitment to our community.
Position Overview
BGCP’s HR Generalist will undertake a wide range of HR tasks, including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, training, analytics, and assisting in building procedures. The HR Generalist will hire talented, passionate, and committed individuals to fulfill BGCP’s mission to empower youth in our communities to equitable access to social, academic, and career opportunities to thrive. You will ensure all departments are fully staffed, create a strong talent pipeline, and be a brand champion for BGCP. You will be a strategic thinker and strong executor, and provide exceptional customer service to internal hiring managers and external candidates and partners. Reporting to the Senior Director of People.
Employment Status: Full-Time
Location: Based in Menlo Park (administrative office) and occasional travel between program sites in San Mateo County
Roles & Responsibilities
Gather reports and analyze data with useful HR metrics
Clean HR information system for efficiency
Conduct new hire orientation, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional first-day experience
Perform offboarding process for entry-level roles
Assist in developing and executing personnel procedures and policies, and provide guidance and interpretation for business operations
Ensure BGCP has the talent needed to achieve its mission by building a strong pipeline of candidates through creating sourcing techniques, online tools, in-person events, and partnerships with other organizations
Maintain recruitment outreach (post and maintain job listings, attend recruitment events and job fairs, advertisements, social media, and college informational sessions)
Take part in recruiting 75-100 staff annually, most of whom are part-time, front-line program staff
Proactively and strategically plan for future hiring needs
Keep job descriptions current, including conducting regular comp studies to ensure BGCP’s pay rates are competitive
Establish strong working relationships with all hiring managers to ensure the HR team is providing the best candidates for every opening
Create an excellent hiring experience for candidates and hiring managers
Work closely with Development Team on social media postings and campaigns
Develop pre-screening protocol and filters to improve efficiencies
Act as administrator for BGCP’s online Application Tracking System (ATS)
Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications & Experience
Passionate about BGCP’s mission and vision
1+ years of recruiting experience and 2+ years of generalist experience, preferably in a large, dynamic, mission-driven organization
Proven ability to build a talent pipeline, recruit for non-profits and build brand strategy
Collaborative team player, comfortable leading as well as executing projects
Excellent customer service orientation, striving to provide a great interviewing experience for all stakeholders
Self-starter, comfortable in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced, high-energy environment with a proven ability to meet multiple deadlines
Experience creating and implementing recruiting strategies
Experience working with ATS software and HRIS systems (i.e. ClearCompany, Paycom)
Experience developing job postings to attract the right candidates
Salary & Benefits
The salary range for this position starts at $80,000.
