Job Title: HR Legal Coordinator (Workers Compensation/Auto Claims)
Position Summary:
Ole Mexican Foods is seeking an experienced, dynamic, dedicated, and highly collaborative professional with legal/paralegal experience to support the Human Resources Department. The HR Legal Coordinator is responsible for the case management of Workers Compensation and automobile (fleet) claims in a highly confidential and professional manner using discretion across a variety of activities.
Responsibilities:
- Support in Workers Compensation claims management, including the processing of RTW (return to work” letters). Assist with workforce planning and organizational analytics, including data gathering and data management.
- Support the legal orientation of new staff and maintain legal training and guidance materials.
- Partner with the Transportation team and managers to gather critical evidence in defense of WC and/or Auto claims.
- Assist with additional legal research and support as requested by the Human Resources Director.
- Edit and proofread legal documents.
- Investigate the nature of the claims and interview witnesses to gain an understanding of what occurred prior to the claim
- Evaluate police reports, video footage, previous insurance claims and other information to further understand the incident
- Create reports detailing the events and damage related to the claim
- Assures and directs appropriate medical care and litigation management
- Plan, recommend, reserve and execute file strategies on assigned claims in a manner consistent with corporate claim policies and procedures
- Review and analyze medical bills to confirm charges and treatment are workers’ comp injury-related and in accordance with the treatment plan
- Ensure payments for medical bills and income replacement are remitted on a timely basis in accordance with applicable fee schedules and statute
- Answer questions regarding the status of pending claims from claimants, policyholders and medical providers
- Maintain and update the employee handbook, including coordinating annual review for appropriate updates.
- Consult with attorneys regarding litigation management, settlement strategy and claim resolution
- Conduct investigation to determine coverage, liability, and damages, including recorded statements
- Receive and initiate timely reviews of new assignments including analyzing liability, property damages, and opposition's positions to determine the strength of each claim and develop negotiation plans.
- Review, interpret, and evaluate all information to determine damages on motor vehicle diminished value claims. This includes interpreting/understanding the relevant law, automobile market data, coverage limits, police reports, and repair estimates.
- Attend depositions and other legal proceedings, as needed
- Support other functions as assigned
Education and Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and paralegal or legal assistant experience (or comparable legal support experience) required.
- 5+ years’ experience working with C-level Executives or law firm partners.
- Ability to manage and be accountable to competing demands. Strong work ethic.
- Experience with the preparation and management of contracts.
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience working with high profile individuals using appropriate sensitivity.
- Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Experience with the setting up and management of virtual meetings and tools (video, conference calls).
- Demonstrate strategic thinking and planning skills.
- Ability to learn and adapt and excel in changing environment.
