Job Title: Human Resources Specialist
Location: Honolulu, Hawaii
Schedule: Typical work schedule is 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, evening and weekend hours required as needed for the demands of the job. Occasional neighbor island travel required.

Compensation: $18-20/hour based on experience.

Summary: The Human Resources Specialist is responsible for maintaining the HRIS database, maintaining personnel files, coordinating the pre-employment process, coordinating daily benefit processing, processing benefit invoices, and assisting with the day-to-day efficient operation of the HR office. As needed, the Specialist will also assist with research, special projects, and HR events.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Maintains HRIS database by inputting employee information such as personal data, benefits, attendance, performance reviews, training, and other related information. Maintain job description database. Assist with maintaining affirmative action and applicant tracking database. Compiles data from personnel records and prepares HR reports.
  • Maintains personnel and benefit files for current and terminated staff. Files employee records to personnel folders.
  • Coordinates pre-employment process by contacting applicant to collect all related documents, schedules drug testing and assessments, and conducting new hire orientation.
  • Coordinates daily benefit processing which includes enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, leaves, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, distributions, loans, hardships, compliance testing.
  • Processes benefit invoices. Reconciles monthly billings. Verifies the calculation of the monthly premiums statements for group plans and maintains statistical data relative to premiums, claims, and costs. Resolves administrative problems with the carrier representatives. Assists with preparing, collecting, and organizing data for benefit plan audits
  • Relieves receptionist during breaks and leaves.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned including research. special projects, and HR generated functions as needed.
  • Assists in the evaluation of HR processes to streamline and improve process efficiency.
  • Provides high-level confidential support to the Human Resources Department and organization, including handling and maintaining confidential information and documents on a daily and on-going basis. Executes “Need to Know” information exchange and communications as appropriate.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development and six (6) month of Human Resources experience; or Associate’s Degree and two (2) years of Human Resources experience; or equivalent combination of education and/or related experience.
  • Intermediate to advance proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook. Proficiency with email, internet, and relational databases required.
  • Able to accurately type up to 45 wpm.
  • Previous experience working with ADP Workforce Now highly desired.
  • Previous experience in human resources highly desired.
