Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students. Position Summary
This position serves as the primary contact for the departments regarding processing of immigration documents for all international scholars within the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy under the Human Resources team. The HR Specialist will coordinate the timely submission and tracking of all immigration documents, working in conjunction with the University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) department. This person also provides HR support for processing graduate students. Additionally, this position serves as the Time Keeping Administrator (TIM).

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
1. Excellent organization, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
2. Ability to handle multiple complex, confidential and sensitive HR issues.
3. Demonstrated experience working with a diverse customer base.
4. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
6. Must have the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.

9. Ability to understand and interpret federal and university policies and procedures for H1B and J1 visas and other types as needed. (I-20, TN, O1, EB1, EB2) .Ability to counsel and train faculty, managers, and School leadership on the process, time frame and requirements for each type of visa. Understanding of current trends in visa approval. Ability to analyze changes in federal and university policies to determine probable outcomes and potential impact on the School. Ability to anticipate and identify any problems in the visa process and independently develop solutions within university policy and federal regulations.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Working knowledge of United States visa processes, UNC Chapel Hill TIM, and other UNC Chapel Hill systems. Experience in processing visa petitions is preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
