The Heating and Air Conditioning Engineer provides necessary service to effectively maintain, repair and install college owned or leased mechanical heating and cooling systems.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS :
1. Repairs, maintains and installs all heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.
2. Maintains all heating and air conditioning-related equipment in accordance with the preventive maintenance schedule.
3. Purchases materials and supplies required for all repairs and maintenance.
4. Maintains complete and accurate records of all work performed.
5. Coordinates all inspections of heating and air conditioning-related equipment for safety and in-service purposes.
6. Maintains a clean workshop, truck and job site.
7. Installs piping systems, ductwork and insulation as needed.
8. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
1. Knowledge of the Energy Management System, its uses, functions and capabilities.
2. Knowledge in the use of heating/air conditioning-related chemicals, solvents, etc.
3. Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems.
4. Knowledge of applicable heating and air conditioning codes and standards.
5. Skill in using standard heating and air conditioning equipment and tools.
6. Skill with power and hand tools.
7. Ability to write and maintain organized files and accurate records.
8. Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and schematics.
9. Ability to use a personal computer.
10. Ability to drive.
11. Ability to be on-call.
12. Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
13. Ability to lift in excess of 100 lbs.
14. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, push, pull, reach and walk to complete assigned tasks.
15. Ability to communicate verbally, written form, voice, e-mail, etc. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Five years related work experience to include heating and air conditioning and/or refrigerant systems, heat pumps, and pneumatic controls.
Equivalent combination of education and/or job-related work experience considered.
Third grade stationary engineers’ license required.
E.P.A. certified in refrigerant recycling, reclaiming and service procedures within 6 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Five years related work experience to include heating and air conditioning and/or refrigerant systems, heat pumps, and pneumatic controls.
Equivalent combination of education and/or job-related work experience considered.
Third grade stationary engineers’ license required.
E.P.A. certified in refrigerant recycling, reclaiming and service procedures within 6 months of employment.
Associates degree in HVAC or related field preferred.
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods standing and walking.
Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
