Are you a multitasker, capable of remote operation of hydroelectric generators while retaining control of the level of the six Highland Lakes? You will be tasked with communicating and coordinating work activities with LCRA's Generation Desk and the River Operations Center (ROC) to meet generation demand load requirements. You will coordinate and document flood operations with the ROC and plant staff. We monitor and operate the Hydro Security System. This position applies in-depth knowledge of standard methodologies and experience in own field to provide and improve services. Takes a new perspective to tackle complex problems. Works independently and receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experiences. We work as a team to plan daily work and hydro operations activities. We identify and resolve problems throughout our assigned work areas of responsibility ensuring it is in excellent operating condition.

You will be trusted to:

  • Recognize any malfunction of the Hydro Remote-Control System and call out appropriate personnel, submitting trouble reports and outage forms as the need arises.
  • Perform ERCOT required testing and submit necessary forms to appropriate entities.
  • Adheres to applicable safety and environmental regulations and practices, specifically when issuing outages.
  • Implements Facilities Emergency Operations Plan at each Hydro facility by communicating with the Emergency Management Coordinator, county law enforcement, EMS officials, LCRA Rangers and safety.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and thorough documentation of records and logs to include hourly readings, plant alarms, equipment availability, and security system activities at all facility locations


You qualify with:

  • Five or more years of experience in electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, controls or operations in a power generation, irrigation, or water plant environment.
  • A degree(s) in industrial maintenance, electronics, electrical systems, power plant operations or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.

You are a great fit with:

  • Knowledge of hydroelectric generators and plant operation procedures.
  • Intermediate skills in control systems.
  • Skill in analyzing and solving complex problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervision, and external organizations under normal and emergency conditions.
  • Ability to understand and follow operating procedures, safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Intermediate skill level in office productivity applications (email, word processing and spreadsheets).
  • Ability to work a Dupont Schedule comprised of day and night shifts including weekend.
