General Purpose:
The Immigration Practice Group assists technology and healthcare companies with business immigration visas. The Immigration Specialist I independently manages a large caseload of nonimmigrant visas or PERMs, including autonomously analyzing facts, determining required documentation, formulating factual and legal arguments, and working with employers and foreign nationals.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Billable Duties/Responsibilities
- The Immigration Specialist I has a billing expectancy of 1200 hours per year.
- Extensive client contact by phone and e-mail regarding the details of cases and providing responses to complex client questions.
- Independently screens cases during intake calls for complications or potential future issues.
- Prepares visa cases from beginning to end, including determining required documentation and working with the client to identify, obtain, and revise documents.
- Understands the permanent residency process, including the PERM Labor Certification recruitment process, prevailing wage submission process, PERM Audit process, the I-140 Petition, and I-485 AOS Application.
- Independently drafts and determines strategy for visa support letters, affidavits, and 15-20-page factual and legal argument responses to Request for Evidence (RFEs).
- Performs immigration and legal research to assist attorney in responding to client questions.
- May lead trainings on immigration processes and provide guidance to junior team members.
- May review immigrant and nonimmigrant visa submissions.
- Assists Lead Immigration Specialist with covering for attorney during out of office time, including answering e-mails, intaking new cases, handling urgent issues and other complex responsibilities.
Non-Billable Duties/Responsibilities
- Copies petitions/applications, scans documents and put on the N drive, file organization, LawLogix input.
- Case meetings with attorneys.
- Independently holds monthly client case status calls for immigration practice clients and communicates updates to the team.
- Updates client processes and internal immigration information.
- May accompany attorney to client meetings regarding immigration services, including preparing marketing materials beforehand, offering input during meetings, following up with clients following meetings.
- Creates and maintains current list of marketing priorities; assists with marketing strategies.
- May mentor junior team members, including assisting with questions and complex issues.
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably with 3+ years business immigration.
- Strong understanding of immigration processes and procedures, knowledge of different types of visas and the rules for each visa, and knowledge of computer programs, including the immigration program LawLogix.
- Strong writing skills, including argumentative writing and technical writing using software terminology.
- Ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to prioritize and track a heavy caseload in a fast-paced environment and with minimal supervision.
- Legal research skills, including independently formulating legal arguments, identifying appropriate case law and interpreting new regulations.
- Ability to independently answer 50-75 immigration-oriented emails per day with accuracy and with limited supervision.
- Ability to exercise significant discretion.
- Ability to develop legal strategy.
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to provide guidance and communicate issues regarding complex immigration matters with C-suite executives, HR managers, and foreign nationals.
- Prior experience or willingness to learn Python software development language for Word document generation a plus.

Work Environment:
Professional office atmosphere. Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting or standing for prolonged periods. Position may require occasional off-hour meetings and events.

Colorado Salary Range $28.24 - $47.07. A discretionary bonus may be available based upon performance.
