    For the Maintenance II role within Valmont we are looking for a highly driven individual to perform skilled technical work in areas of installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment. This role requires basic electromechanical knowledge and proficiency. In this position, the Maintenance II is expected to:

    Safety Expectations

    • Follow Arc Flash requirements which are pertinent to the job
    • Always follow the LOTO provisions of the hazardous energy control program.
    • Always follow fall protection guidelines when working at heights.
    • Always wear appropriate PPE at all times, including safety glasses, steel toed boots with metatarsal guards, and hearing protection. In addition, employees must wear face shields, goggles, arc flash rated equipment, and gloves as required.
    • Review projects and work assignments for potential hazards and recommend safest ways to complete the job.
    • Recognize and report hazards.

    Basic Qualifications (Required)

    • Two (2) years of relevant industry experience.
    • Ability to read, write, and understand English in order to complete necessary paperwork requirements. Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions.
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and basic electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drawings.
    • Ability to read tape measure and other measurement devices, and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints.
    • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy while working in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
    • The ability to work over ten hours a week in overtime when required for business needs.
    • Provide basic assistance with new installations of equipment, including high and low voltage systems and major repairs and replacements.
    • Provide basic assistance with the installation of distribution equipment including switchgear, I-lines, bus ways, gutters, disconnects, conduits and cables in accordance with UL and National Electrical Code.
    • Provide basic assistance with the diagnosis, testing, disassembly, inspecting, precise measuring, repair and re-assembly of plant equipment or components with instruction from skilled Maintenance employees.
    • Provide basic assistance to skilled Maintenance employees to perform electrical functions which include installation and repair of equipment up to 480V, repair of small fixtures, fans, and appliances while also repairing welders, wire feeds, plasma cutters, and motors over 120V.
    • Perform basic pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical troubleshooting and repair plant production equipment
    • Use troubleshooting aids, such as volt, ohm and amp meters, and any other tool used to diagnose equipment to interpret readings with instruction as needed.
    • Service and maintain cranes, drills, presses, press brakes (NC control and manual control), plasma cutting machines, robots, seamers, high frequency induction equipment, distribution equipment, CNC equipment, communications networks, and radios/radio controls.
    • Repair worn parts, straighten and fabricate fixtures and equipment through welding (MIG welding, stick welding in all positions) and cutting, (hand gas and plasma torches).
    • Carry out general house cleaning tasks and perform general responsibilities such as recording labor and materials in the IFS system and the reporting of abnormal conditions and safety hazards.
    • Ability to coordinate maintenance activities with other departments.
    • A basic working knowledge of IFS work order reporting programs and processes. Ability to create corrective work orders, accurately report time, and issue parts to work orders.
    • Basic experience maintaining industrial equipment and pneumatic, hydraulic and mechanical equipment.
    • Basic experience using industrial lifting equipment, cranes, forklift, cherry picker and mobile cranes or hoists
    • Passion and integrity with the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

    Job Training Skill Development

    • Minimum two (2) years of relevant industry experience or an additional two (2) years of on the job experience at a Maintenance Mechanic I level.
    • Assist in calculating quantities for maintenance materials used in projects.
    • Proper inspection of parts and equipment
    • Ability to carry out minor maintenance operations
    • Accountability of unique safety considerations

    Decision Making

    • Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must display an aptitude for problem solving and the ability to plan for or around future needs or problems.
    • Although most of this job is covered by standard practices, good common sense and quality control procedures are essential aspects of completing this job in a successful manner.
    • Must be able to determine when equipment should be removed from or returned to service
    • Must be able to identify and report hazards

    • The incumbent needs to be able to handle and grasp item with one hand.
    • There are times when an awkward position must be maintained in order to complete maintenance tasks
    • This inside shop environment works at a very quick pace and the Maintenance II must have the physical strength and stamina to keep up with this the speed of the rest of the team
    • The Maintenance II needs to be able to sustain the weight and fatigue of the Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) during the entire shift as well as endure the excessive heat during the warm summer months and the high temperature given off from the manufacturing equipment used.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
