Industrial Mechanic

Virgil Gamache Farms, Inc. (VGF) is a multi-generational hop farm located in Toppenish, Washington

VGF is seeking an Industrial Mechanic to join our team. The position is full time in person through the calendar year. The Industrial Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and running hop harvesting equipment. It includes hop processing equipment, kilns, conveyors, and baling equipment.

As of 2023 Washington State pays overtime to agriculture employees over 48 hours per week. There will be extended hours required during harvest which runs 7 days a week from approximately the end of August to the beginning of October.

Responsibilities:

• Install, maintain, and repair hop processing machinery
• Read drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures
• Perform basic preventative maintenance services Verifying fluid levels, belt tension and other similar duties
• Maintain and track conveyors
• Perform predictive and operational procedures
• Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on electrical systems
• Operate forklift to move parts throughout shop and yard
• Perform post-work inspection and operation test
• Complete daily maintenance and cleaning of work area
• Keep daily status reports on equipment serviced
• Mentor service technician trainee
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Mechanically inclined with the knowledge of basic hand tool use
• Previous experience on repairing and maintaining stationary industrial equipment such as hydraulics and bearings
• A valid driver’s license
• Attention to detail for precision and accuracy
• A good working knowledge of machinery, belts, and belt drives
• Possess basic fabrication skills
• Possess basic computer proficiency
• Ability to manage schedule work orders and prioritize repairs
• Able to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere
• Able to read wiring schematics and operators manuals.
• Ability to understand basic safety procedure
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in English, in written, oral, or diagrammatic form
• Ability to work at heights above 10 feet using ladder or a personnel lift
• Ability to work in unfavorable conditions at times (cramped, dusty, cold, etc.)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $30.00 per hour
