PURPOSE

The Information Technology Specialist is responsible for endpoint administration which includes installation, configuration, testing, debugging, deployment, troubleshooting, and maintenance of devices running Windows, macOS and other operating systems. This position will assist with design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support of attended and unattended devices such as desktops, laptops, point-of-sale equipment, printers/copiers, and mobile technologies. This is a dynamic role that requires the ability to administer systems, handle day-to-day user needs and troubleshoot issues. The Information Technology Specialist position provides an opportunity to support a wide range of technologies, in a mix of office, restaurant, and retail environments for Campus Auxiliary Services located on the prestigious SUNY Geneseo campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains computer systems, mobile technologies, and peripherals. This includes planning, installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading a wide variety of hardware and software while ensuring optimal performance
  • Ensure desktop environments support software systems critical to running CAS operations. These systems include, but are not limited to: the accounting (GP), POS system (CloudPOS), asset management and inventory insight, work order tracking (Jira),Caterease and meal plan (Blackboard) systems. This position also requires set up and use of Microsoft systems and other apps.
  • Provides support for all hardware and common use software. Escalates issues to next level support staff or vendors, as needed. Assists in managing external vendors to ensure service has been provided as expected
  • Plans and executes desktop and peripheral equipment replacement based on established cycles. Works with hardware vendors to select, obtain pricing, and recommend replacement equipment. Assists the Assistant Director of IT with budget estimates, order placement, receiving of shipments, and inventory of equipment prior to deployment
  • Maintains the security of desktop environments, including those of the point-of-sale devices by ensuring regular updates to antivirus and anti-malware software
  • Assists Assistant Director of IT in planning and implementing server, network, and other service related changes and upgrades. Works with hardware and software vendors to select, obtain pricing, and recommend replacement equipment and software
  • Assists in maintaining virtualized (VMware Hypervisor) and physical servers, their operating systems and other network services required for operations
  • Ensures the proper operation of the company-wide work order system. This includes the installation, configuration, upgrading, and support of the work order system as service to our customers
  • Ensures the proper operation of all CAS print services. Supports multi-function copy/print/scan devices by managing the company print server and working with Toshiba Business Solutions for service-related issues
  • Assists in ensuring IT infrastructure is adequate and effective in supporting business needs. Assists in evaluating and recommending products for purchases
  • Assists in researching available software options. Partners with users to identify user needs, evaluates possible solutions, and recommends the appropriate software solution for the user while staying within budget guidelines
  • Ensures work is scheduled effectively; and checkpoints and controls are set for monitoring progress
  • Keeps up to date on technical knowledge and developments that impact roles
  • Assists in creating learning opportunities for all staff as part of daily operations
  • Other duties may be assigned to reach individual and organizational goals

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS or other IT related discipline and at least two years’ related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds occasionally
  • Extensive computer use

SCOPE AND DIRECTION

  • Reports to: Assistant Director of IT
  • Direct Reports: None
  • FLSA Status: Exempt
  • This is typically a Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm job but this person will need to have the ability to come in early, stay late or work weekends on occasion if needed.
