Description: PURPOSE:
Sets up and maintains the injection molding machines to mold products to meet our customer needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Equipment Knowledge - Knows how to start up, operate, make adjustments to, and shut down all injection-molding machines per run schedules.
  • Maintains required documentation by recording work data in databases and on set up sheets.
  • Responsible for the timely and successful completion of run changes on all products (Military, Safety and Sunwear).
  • Monitors quality of products per customer specifications and corrects quality problems as they occur by making machine adjustments.
  • Troubleshoots all problems in the injection molding process.
  • Monitors the hopper and mold strainers and cleans when necessary.
  • Makes color changes on machines by vacuuming hopper, purging injection molding machine, pre-drying and adding new resin to injection molding machines, and makes injection molding machine adjustments, all in accordance with terms of job order.
  • Polishes and wipes mold surface and inserts as needed in order to maintain cleanliness.
  • Maintains a clean work area and performs cleanliness audits for their work area.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of quality & continuous improvement procedures related to all cell positions.
  • Must be flexible to perform other job duties as necessary. This may include other departments such as helmet manufacturing, textiles, etc.
  • Performs equipment maintenance as necessary

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR PROFESSIONAL LICENSE(s): *
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 to 3 years or more related
experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:

  • Running multiple types of injection molding machines
  • Troubleshooting molding issues and making necessary improvements
  • Checking product performance of molded products using various types of measurement equipment
  • Performing cosmetic inspections on optical products and accurately identifying defects
  • Insert cleaning and maintenance
  • Mold installation and removal is a plus
  • Mold maintenance is a plus

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILL AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring tools. The ability to generate reports and graphs as needed. Computer proficiency to include SPC, software is required.
  • Ability to create charts and reports is necessary.

Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works majority of the day in a climate controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature, noise and dust. May be required to wear personal protective equipment including but not limited to safety glasses, hand protection, ear protection, as well as steel toe shoes. May encounter or be required to work with various types of chemicals.

Generally, travel is not required
