Innovation is a key pillar of Munich Re’s future strategy and the Global Innovation department plays a key role in shaping Munich Re’s future by creating own new ventures and supporting Munich Re units in innovation management. The US Venture Building unit follows the mission to enable innovation across Munich Re in the US by providing a state-of-the art innovation infrastructure and support environment from ideation over incubation to acceleration.

We’re adding to our diverse team of experts and are looking to hire those who are committed to building a culture that enables the creation of innovative solutions for our business units and clients.

We are looking for a very experienced innovation professional with excellent methodological skills and an extensive internal and external network in the innovation management scene to provide state-of-the-art support for innovation project teams.
YOUR JOB
  • Lead and Manage the innovation lab of Munich Re in NYC and be responsible for the end-to-end management of all aspects of the Innovation lab (e.g. mentoring innovation projects and organizing and hosting client visits to the lab)
  • Develop an innovation ecosystem and a forum for innovators to discuss learnings, approaches and entrepreneurial concepts
  • Maintain and evolve our institutionalized program to provide state-of-the-art support and enablement for ideation and for innovation projects in the lab (with regards to coaching, methodology, digital assets, etc.)
  • Maintain and expand a global network of internal and external experts and service providers to provide support / enablement to innovation project teams
  • Act as mentor and coach to Venture teams housed in the innovation lab and bring them forward and guide them in the right direction based on long-run experience in running innovation projects and creating new ventures
  • Cooperate closely with Munich Re’s Innovation Scouts in centres of innovation around the world and in NYC and connect to the various worldwide innovation teams and leaders in order to initiate change and build connections
  • Act as a reference in setting up and supporting exchange with internal colleagues, external networks, such as other companies, start-ups and universities

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience as a senior innovation professional preferred – either in in-house innovation teams, at an Incubator, at an Accelerator, at a Company Builder, at a Startup or at an innovation consultancy. Management experience is a plus.
  • Having been responsible for running multiple innovation projects and/or having been responsible for creating new business ventures - from idea generation over developing a new business model & MVP to scaling a new business
  • Having successfully run an innovation lab or having founded and scaled an own business / startup or having advised startups is a strong plus
  • Excellent methodological skills and practical experience in ideation (e.g. like Design Thinking) and in incubating new businesses (e.g. like Lean-Startup, Business model canvas, Scrum)
  • Outstanding networking skills, an integrative personality which knows how to bring together diverse groups of thinkers as well as strong leadership skills to advise innovation project teams and bring them to the next level
  • Dynamic, dedicated and committed to working independently on rapidly changing innovation initiatives as well as tech-savvy, creative and able to “think outside the box”
  • Superior interpersonal, presentation and communication skills across all levels of senior management, including the executive levels.
  • Able to translate technical/entrepreneurial jargon making it actionable & clear
  • Highly motivated and action-oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Good knowledge of any of the trends in Munich Re’s playing fields in our Innovation portfolio
  • Agile, willing to travel

Additional Information

The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including NYC. The salary range posted below applies to the Company’s NYC location.

The base salary range anticipated for this position is $142,400 - $208,800 plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
