Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships, the Instructional Designer creates content in the Institute's learning management system (LMS) and provides hands-on support for the Institute's innovative and effective teaching and learning practices. The Instructional Designer will design and provide training for faculty on distant learning applications, teaching strategies and collaborate to improve and enhance courses that will produce the best learning outcomes for students.
In collaboration with corporate partnerships, academic deans, faculty and staff, the Instructional Designer will ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness of distance learning and in-person services and will serve as the campus resource in this area.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with major course work in Education, with an emphasis in Instructional Design, Distance Education/Online Learning, Instructional Technology, or related fields is required.
Three to five years of directly related experience, or a combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is required. Experience in higher education in the implementation of Distance Learning programs is preferred.

Develop, Implement and Provide Hands-on Management of Instructional Design Activities for Distant Learning Course/Program Development
Establish and develop the processes and guidelines for the Institute in the desig and enhancement of courses and programs in an in-person, hybrid, and online environment.
Provide training and education to faculty on best practices in curriculum design and benchmark effectiveness of course elements.
Educate faculty on their role in the conversion and preparation of online courses.
Advise faculty on best practices in accessible instructional matters to accommodate those with disabilities.
Analyze and design the use of instructional materials based on learner characteristics and in the context of the desired learning outcomes.
Develop and oversee an onboarding workshop for faculty who are new to teaching in-person or distant learning.
Research, review, and provide recommendations on new and emerging technologies that can be utilized in both in-person and online environments.
Evaluate, recommend and create educational materials, tutorials, and multimedia resources for use in online environments.
Identify and recommend learning objectives to enhance student learning.
Assist faculty in aligning course objectives with content and learning outcomes.
Create new course content and components using current or future Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Hands-on Management of Instructional Design Activities throughout the Course Development Cycle
Direct faculty through the curriculum design process (a high-level course plan) to a detailed outline of course content broken down to the lesson level.
Communicate needs, manage expectations, and ensure deadlines are met throughout the course development process.
Manage timelines and milestones of the course development process.
Responsible for the Delivery of Distant Learning
Ensure daily operations in the delivery of online courses are met, resolving faculty, students, and staff administrative issues as they arise.
Conduct periodic course evaluations and revisions.
Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of existing courses and technology, revising existing courses based on findings.

Knowledge of learning management systems such as Canvas, and Sakai and the ability to use them to create effective courses and learning environments.
Familiarity with distance learning policies, procedures ,and internal and governmental laws and regulations.
Experience in the design, development, and facilitation of training workshops and materials.
Demonstrated experience with student-centered learning and learning theories; Teaching and learning with technology strategies and experience in evaluation of those strategies.
Familiarity with emerging web technologies that impact training, development, and instruction.
Experience developing a wide array of programs, from credit-bearing degree programs to not-for-credit certificate programs, workshops, webinars, etc.
Knowledge of effective instructional uses of synchronous and asynchronous learning tools.
Accessibility of instructional content and technology functionality for all learners with diverse abilities.
Principles and procedures of record keeping, technical report writing, and preparation of correspondence and presentations.
Knowledge of current copyright regulations and intellectual property concepts as they relate to the academic environment.
Working knowledge of both Mac and Windows operating systems.
Positive, welcoming personality with demonstrated customer service experience.
Ability to work comfortably, respectfully, and competently with people of diverse backgrounds.
Available for occasional work on evenings and weekends, as departmental schedules may require.
