The Office of Consultation and Research in Medical Education (OCRME) is recruiting for a full-time academic staff position to support instructional development, faculty development, educational data collection/analysis, and technology enhanced learning (TEL) at the Carver College of Medicine. OCRME provides a wide variety of educational support services and academic programs for the healthcare education and practice community at the University of Iowa. These include: UME and GME teaching development; certificate and Master’s degree programs in Medical Education; accreditation support for the College of Medicine; support for the interprofessional education curriculum; and faculty development, especially in teaching and learning.

Duties to include:
This academic staff member would join a team of nine faculty and staff in OCRME. OCRME is an integral part of the Carver College of Medicine’s educational program. For more than 40 years, OCRME faculty and staff have provided expertise, leadership, and mentoring in educational scholarship and innovation. Faculty members and staff not only work with learners enrolled in certificate and advanced degree programs, they also provide consultation and advice to the college’s faculty, staff, and educational leadership. OCRME faculty and staff are national and international leaders in healthcare education, present at national and international forums, publish in educational and scientific journals, and take on senior positions in professional organizations.
This position will also collaborate closely with staff and faculty colleagues in instructional technology, instructional design, and curriculum development.
- Develop educational and training programs sponsored by the office
- Design, develop and edit instructional materials in various formats and media
- Counsel faculty on instructional design
- Assist faculty with identifying resources, information, and research evidence for developing educational programs
- Participate in data collection, including conduct interviews and focus groups
- Assist measurement and evaluation specialists in analyzing curriculum evaluation data
- Prepare technical reports of evaluation studies for dissemination to curriculum committees and CCOM deans
- Follow established procedures and policies to maintain the records and working documents of the OCRME team conducting curriculum quality assurance
- Participate on collegiate committees as assigned
- Liaise with other collegiate, university and outside organizations to support the work of the Office
Educational Requirements:
Masters in Health Sciences Education, Higher Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years’ experience in higher education (healthcare education preferred)
- Demonstrated success in education
- Proficiency in using relevant office and educational software (e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal skills, including an aptitude for listening and the capacity to educate through both written and verbal communications
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
- Proficiency in teamwork and coordination as part of a dynamic, diverse, collegial team
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success with online teaching and learning
- Experience with medical education accreditation processes (e.g. LCME, ACGME)
- Experience with healthcare education
- Experience with data visualization software (e.g. Tableau)
