Position Summary

The Instructional Technology Coordinator facilitates technology-rich teaching and learning by providing evaluation and technical support related to the College’s online learning management system for online, hybrid, and web-augmented courses. This includes support for academic courses, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students. The Instructional Technology Coordinator will adhere to the policies as specified by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the Drake State Community and Technical College Personnel Handbook.

Salary Schedule E1, Grade 1
Salary Range $53,959 - $69,720 (12 months, Exempt).

Work Hours
: 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday - Thursday and 8:00 am - 12:00 pm Friday

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The Instructional Technology Coordinator shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with policies established by the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees and the J.F. Drake State Community and Technical College Faculty and Staff Handbook.
  • Work collaboratively and effectively with faculty throughout the College to integrate student learning outcomes into the design, development, implementation, and management of instructional content, courses and projects within the College’s online learning management system to enrich teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate with College deans and division chairs, information technology services and others to create, review, edit, and share analytic reports for comprehensive evaluation.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Subject Matter Experts and assist with the development of content that supports what students need to learn, sequencing of the content, and development of content.
  • Collect and disseminate information pertaining to best practices in educational assessment, curriculum development and technology-infused innovations.
  • Create and conduct seminars, workshops and trainings on various education and technology related topics, including LMS orientation for new faculty.
  • Review online and hybrid courses by applying the assessment best practices to ensure the highest level of course quality, student experience and engagement.
  • Assist with the process for systematic review and evaluation of the planning unit and the College according to the institutional effectiveness model adopted by the College, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans.
  • Attend the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Use interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed between coworkers, the supervisory chain, faculty, staff, students, and customers.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Works one-on-one and in groups with faculty and staff to create online and hybrid courses, services and instructional material.
  • In collaboration with appropriate department staff, administrate the Learning Management System which includes creating, backing up and restoring courses, managing user and course accounts, tracking the training and registration, and professional development
  • Research new instructional technologies for viability within instructional/classroom setting and advises management on equipment and training needs.
  • Design, develop and produce media elements for courses and other projects. Advises on production issues, including content acquisition, multimedia authoring, animation, graphics, video and audio.
  • Monitor appropriate usage by instructors of materials concerning copyright laws and intellectual property law.
  • Maintain up-to-date computer skills by attending training on new equipment and learning new/modified procedures and software.
  • Ensure each course in LMS meets the ADA compliance and accessibility
  • Serve on college committees when requested
  • Retain and submit documentation as requested to support accreditation efforts
  • Perform other work-related responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Instruction, Dean of Instruction, and/or President.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS :
  • Minimum of an earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Instructional or Educational Technology, Education, Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, or related field
  • Experience with proprietary learning technology solutions and learning management systems
  • Experience with computerized systems
  • Experience with post-production tasks including video and audio editing, effects, branding and file compression
  • Experience with online course development and evaluation
  • Experience with various e-learning authoring software and tools

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Earned Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Instructional or Educational Technology, Education, Information Technology, or related field
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience as an Instructional Technologist, Instructional Developer, or Instructional Designer
  • Understanding and experience of online instructional pedagogy

Sick Leave
All regular full-time non-instructional staff earns one day of sick leave which is the equivalent of 8 hours of sick leave per month. Unused sick leave is rolled over to the following year. Upon retirement, employees are allowed to convert unused sick time into service time for the purpose of retirement. Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. This tuition waiver program is designed for all full-time instructional and non-instructional employees of The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education and their dependents as defined under by policy. The program will be coordinated by each institution for employees within The Alabama College System and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education. An application form for the tuition assistance program is available in the Human Resources office and should be completed prior to registration for classes.

  • 1/3 waived after 1st year
