Compensation ranges from $51.17 and $54.47 per hour
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems in support of plant management.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
- Perform preventive maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency backup systems
- Maintain complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment
- Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain plant reliability. Assist in physical inventories.
- Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant procedures, operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records
- Supervises contractor/outside technicians performing in-plant electrical and control system repairs/upgrades
- Assist in operation of plant equipment and systems as directed
- Inspect repair, install and remove all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts
- Participate in plant housekeeping activities as directed
- Conduct troubleshooting and analysis on DCS, PLC and turbine control equipment
- Maintain all plant instrumentation and electrical test equipment
- Fully support and participate in NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs
- Perform all tasks qualified to perform due to knowledge, experience, training or license held
- Complete other tasks as assigned by plant management

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and works in cooperation with the operating engineers on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions, or with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires working an 8-hour shift with the ability to respond to call-ins, work at night, weekends, and holidays, as required to deal with potential problems or outages.
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Compensation ranges from $51.17 and $54.47 per hour
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
- Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable. Four years work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for this requirement
- A Massachusetts Electrician license is desirable
- Massachusetts 1C and 3A Hoisting Engineer Licenses are desirable
- Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts highly desirable
- Ability to locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain, install, modify and troubleshoot plant electrical systems and equipment
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable
- Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists and slings
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must have excellent organizational skills
- Must have strong personal computer skills
