Hourly Rate: $20.80, Annual Rate: $29,947.00 Effective as of: 08-16-2022


**Annual salary noted above is based on an 8 hour day and full days worked calendar. Any position that is less than a full FTE/8 hours per day or late start will be prorated accordingly.


Certain Education Support Professional (ESP) jobs may include the value of holiday pay into the hourly rate. Review the Holiday in Rate column of the Education Support Professional Job Title, Wage Plan, Grade document.


PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENT


The successful new hire or rehired candidate will be responsible to complete and incur the fingerprinting and processing fee of $54.50 through an appropriate fingerprinting vendor and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, within 48 hours of offer acceptance.

RESPONSIBILITIES


SUMMARY: Provide individual or small group instructional support to visually impaired student(s) in/out of the classroom by modifying classroom materials, ordering Braille educational materials, creating tactile models, and other supports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Attend classes with students and assist with access to information being presented via overhead projector/screen or white board. Rewrite problems in larger text, read aloud, help with notes, and give assistance in navigating classroom environment.

Order large print/braille versions of textbooks, monitor which volumes are needed currently from the set that corresponds with the regular student version.

Order, pick-up and deliver to students, existing sight-modified materials such as models or maps from SPED resource library.

Use software and embosser to convert worksheets, assignments, and quizzes to Braille for students. Use software to convert Braille back to written English.

Recreate charts, models, and other visual information presented to students as photos/images into a tactile version either by hand using foam cutouts and other art supplies or using machinery such at Thermoform.

Coordinate with Visual Disability Teachers about student needs and academic success.

May be required to visit multiple schools per day, depending on where low-vision/blind students attend school.

Attend departmental meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High School diploma/GED required, related course work through a recognized business, vocational or community college preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years' experience working directly with students (preferably with low-vision/blind/special needs). Previous experience working with computer office software including Office Suite, PDF, scanners, etc.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT: Position requires employee work with special needs children. Within 2 years' of hire the employee should demonstrate proficiency with braille reading, writing, and production of low vision and braille materials.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS: Requires a valid Colorado Driver's License and auto insurance.

SUPERVISION/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Position serves as a resource for modifications regarding Braille, large print, and tactile graphics. Serves as a technical resource at school site for technology products used by low-vision/blind students. Services are provided across the District.

SAFETY TO SELF AND OTHERS: Medium exposure of self to bruises due to typical minor school/office environment accidents. Risk of injury in car accidents while driving between school sites.

CONTACTS: Position requires contact with persons in same work unit/building and persons in other departments.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the functions of this position the employee will be exposed to classroom and outdoor environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate and use interpersonal skills.

JUDGMENT AND DECISION-MAKING: Work is assigned by the Teacher of Visually Impaired. The type of decisions may range from determining instructional format, evaluating if Braille materials need to be on-site for student, and determining if materials should be presented verbally or completed at a later date in braille. Decision making process is guided by District Policies and IDEA Regulations. Typically, decision making involves the collaboration of the Teacher of the Visually Impaired, educational team, and family. An error in decision making could cause conflict between staff and students regarding the preparation of materials and could cause noncompliance with IDEA Regulations.
