Position Objective:

The Newark Museum of Art is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Inventory Technician to be part of a team that works on inventory of the Museum’s permanent collection. The Inventory Technician is an entry-level museum professional familiar with basic registrational principles. The Inventory Technician reports to the Collections Manager.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts inventories, following procedural rules.
  • Enters locations into the collection database system after reconciling object type and description.
  • Creates new records for objects and assigns numbers as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet the mission of the Registrar Department.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the Museum’s mission; art handling skills; strong organizational, interpersonal and computer skills. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and be able to assist with moving furniture and large sculptures. Museum internships, course work in museum studies and knowledge of TMS a plus.
