In this role, you will help us achieve our goals of being the “best in class,” by serving as the lead within our IT Division for the following key areas: liaison to Virginia Information Technology Agency as DPOR’s Agency IT Resource ( AITR ), end user computing support and IT asset management, incorporation of information security requirements into IT planning and operation, and oversight of the operations of DPOR’s mission critical IT systems.

As part of The Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation ( DPOR ), you will play a critical role in the economic vitality of Virginia by helping qualified people start businesses and work in their chosen fields. DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers. We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state law and regulations.

TELEWORK OPTIONS : Please note that this position may be eligible for limited telework and is not a full-time telework position. Upon hire into this position, the agency may require the incumbent to be in the position for 120 days before a specific telework schedule may be submitted for consideration.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of mission critical IT systems
  • Experience managing and implementing change control processes and testing efforts for IT systems
  • Working knowledge of information security standards, policies and procedures and the incorporation of these into IT operations
  • Working knowledge of IT asset management
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective and responsive customer service to groups/customers served
  • Experience leading groups/teams
  • Strong analytical, trouble-shooting and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented
  • Ability to communicate effectively (including the ability to negotiate and persuade) both in electronic, written and oral means at all levels within and across agencies and with vendors and vendor staff.
  • Ability to delegate tasks while at the same time being responsible to ensure that all tasks are completed with a high level of quality
  • Ability to lead / inspire staff and enable IT staff to accomplish goals regardless of whether the staff report directly to this position
  • Ability to model, mentor, train and teach others and produce / provide valuable, practical documentation and resources that aid to this end
  • Ability to accurately estimate work effort and deliver to those estimates
  • Ability to foresee issues and problems and recommend options for addressing
  • College degree in information technology or related field, or an equivalent combination of related training and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Work experience as an Agency IT Resource (AITR) for an executive branch agency strognly preferred
  • Working knowledge of the Virginia Information Technology Agency’s (VITA’s) information security standards, policies and procedures and the incorporation of these into IT operations strongly preferred
