Selective Case Management, Inc. (SCM) works within the disability community along side state agencies to empower our clients with the knowledge, connections, and confidence to achieve independence by establishing a sustainable career.

At SCM the role of the Job Developer/Job Coach is hybrid (remote/in-person). The ideal candidate will be cross trained to fulfill each role on a part-time basis with full-time opportunity.

You will have the flexibility to as a Job Developer supporting our Employment Specialists by identifying employment opportunities for their clients with disabilities and/or other barriers to employment. This includes establishing and maintaining working relationships with potential employers, industry organizations, and public agencies to source job openings and secure employment and vocational training opportunities.

As a Job Coach, you will work in the community providing a variety of services to the individuals we serve. You will be trained to plan and implement job coaching strategies to assess clients' need for accommodations and provide help and guidance for clients who are facing different challenges related to their disability at work.

Responsibilities:

Job Developer

  • Communication and comfort requesting additional information if needed along with questions of clarity to ensure full understanding of individuals obstacles to employment.
  • Complete job search activities and research to develop meaningful employment opportunities for clients as requested by matching job openings to job candidates.
  • Keep good record of all efforts and contacts made
  • Work with employers to understand their needs.
  • Conduct follow-up with businesses to assess if positions are still available, application process if not listed online, etc.

Job Coach

  • Provide assistance and guidance to clients who need help with their everyday work activities and/or some new tasks
  • Discover clients' motivation and help develop their skills
  • Act as an advocate for the client on the job site and provide employers with information on effectively working with individuals with disabilities
  • Implement positive behavior interventions and support techniques to enhance client success

Skills & Abilities

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Some college courses are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates who meet these qualifications who also have/are working towards a degree or certification in a related field.

Experience: A minimum of two years of work experience is required, preferably in a human service setting. A degree or certification in a relevant area of study may be substituted for experience requirements. Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is strongly preferred. Additional examples of preferred experience include but are not limited to human services, home health care, behavioral technician, life skills coach, social work, and customer service.

Computer Skills: Proficient with Adobe, Dropbox, Microsoft Suite including OneDrive, Outlook, Word and Excel

Other Requirements:

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with clients, team members, and employers
  • Ability to effectively teach job tasks and utilize judgment in making performance observations and employment recommendations
  • Thoroughly complete and submit reports electronically
  • Familiarity navigating employment resources
  • Top notch organizational skills
  • Tech savvy problem solver

Travel: Local travel within Kalamazoo and Calhoun county is necessary. Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation required. Mileage reimbursement available.

Environment: Various business locations based on current assignment and caseload.

Physical: The employee frequently is required to drive for short periods of time to and from assigned location, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents.

Hearing: Hear within the normal audio range with or without correction.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
