Job Description

Objectives

• This positiondescription defines the areas of work at Chugach ownedfacilities, customer facilities (meter base replacements) and duties as assigned for the position of Journeyman Wireman under the Outside Plant Personnel Agreement.
• This position safely and efficiently performs the full range of journeyman level wireman (electrician) duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of wiring, equipment and appliances consistent with Chugach's policies and procedures and with Original Equipment Manufacturer specifications to ensure the reliability and safety of Chugach and customer owned facilities. This position excludes work assignments traditionally done by Wiremen coveredby the Generation Agreementin Chugach powerplants, and any substation wiring.

Reporting Relationships

• 
  Reports to: Journeyman WiremanForeman.
• Directs: Apprentice Wireman.

Performs Personally

• Performs rough and finished electrical installation, tests, and maintenance on a variety of wiring, motors, relays, clocks, controls, pumps, fans, heater, lighting, and other types of electrical equipment including parking lot lighting and exterior building lighting but excluding street lighting served by Chugach.
• Provide as-built drawings at the completion of the project.
• Maintain and operate all test equipment and test devices associated with this position.
• Perform all other dutiesassociated with this position as assigned.
• Reads schematics and specifications related to various electrical installations.
• Assists in the preparation of material estimates and labor hour estimates for planned projects and unexpected maintenance projects.
• Maintains local purchase and other records for parts and materials used to complete assigned work.
• Schedules preventive maintenance and repair work.
• Obtain electrical wiring permitsas needed from the Municipality of Anchorage, Building Safety Department.
• Performs customer meter base repairs and replacements as requested when customer owned equipment is damaged by Chugach or Chugach contractors.
• Usesand performs operator maintenance on tools and equipment common to the trade.

• Customers, contractors and suppliers.

Job Qualifications

Education

High School graduate or equivalent. Has passed a Journeyman Wireman examination and has at least five years of practicalexperience and training in the classification.

Experience

Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship program and five years of work experience in the classification.

Abilities and Skills

Physical ability to manage 50 pounds alone, climb ladders, stairs, and be able to accessall areas aroundthe equipment. Abilityto work aroundheavy industrial equipment in indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to perform written and verbal communication and effectively communicate with others. Ability to work well with other staff, crews, contractors, and management. Ability to work in confined spaces in compliance with safety policies. Thorough understanding of low voltage (0-480 VAC). Knowledge of National Electrical Codes. Willing and able to travel by air in accordance with collective bargaining agreement. Ability to read and comprehend relevant instruction manuals, construction drawings, and electrical diagrams.

Other Requirements

Valid Alaska Driver's License. Alaska Department of Labor Certificate of Fitness. Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR Certificate or State of Alaska equal.
