Duties
- The Kennel Manager oversees the establishment of the kennel facility and the maintenance or workability of the facility.
- Maintains accurate record keeping, preventative medical, parasite and rodent control programs, sanitation, care and feeding of the pets, boarded day and or night, and obtains all pet related support requirements.
- Requires knowledge of established rules, procedures, methods of operation, and federal, state, and local laws in the management of the kennel operation. Prepares for program manager and veterinary inspections.
- Responsible for cash handling functions in support of services and retail. Forecasts annual kennel operational budgets to supervisor. Ensures proper record keeping by handlers to include all necessary DOD, Army, and unit paperwork.
- Prepares monthly work schedules and weekend duty rosters for all assigned personnel to ensure dogs and animals are fed and kennels are properly maintained; ensures proper coordination with veterinarian personnel for proper health and care of animals.

- Ability to work occasional days, nights, weekends and holidays for special events and TDY - as needed by management.
- Pre-employment physical is required. Must be able to lift and carry weights weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally controlled facilities.
- May require TDY travel ? more than 20% of time.
- Must not have an aversion to animals, blood, bodily fluids, animal tissues, strong odors, needles, or sharp instruments.
- The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
- Must be able to receive all mandated immunizations to work in a direct-patient capacity and/or veterinary environment IAW AR 40-562 Chap 4-1.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of all background checks in accordance with AR 215-3, 2-15.j. to include a Tier 1 background investigation.
Qualifications
- Experience must include management experience and animal care experience which require daily health care and maintenance of adult pets and a working knowledge of Federal (Army/USDA), state and other sanitation and health inspection standards.
- A minimum of 1 year of demonstrated related work experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Work experience must have been equivalent in complexity, difficulty and responsibility to the next lower pay band level.
- Physical requirement: Ability to lift 75 lbs. and long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.
Highly Preferred:
- 3 years of professional experience directly related to project planning to include the coordination, administration, evaluation, data analysis and implementation within the veterinary industry.
- At least 3 years of clinical veterinarian experience.
- Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.
