Cat Kennel Technician

The Humane Society of Cobb County (HSCC) is an independent, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) humane animal welfare charity founded in 1957. We are a no-kill shelter serving Cobb County and the surrounding area.

With the assistance of caring volunteers and generous supporters, our programs continue to provide help and hope in the lives of innocent animals in need and the people that care for them.

Our mission is to promote humane welfare and responsible animal guardianship through educational community outreach, shelter, and spay/neuter programs.

Job Description – Part Time

  • Clean cat habitats and suites including scooping/washing litter boxes, replacing soiled bedding, disposing of litter/debris, scrubbing and sanitizing rooms and/or habitats, while adhering to strict sanitation protocols and additional protocols specific to the Cat Program. This is physically demanding, but important work!
  • Sweep/vacuum/mop floors of cat areas daily.
  • Performs deep clean tasks as assigned.
  • Responsible for providing adequate food and fresh water to all felines on a daily basis.
  • Monitors physical condition and the behavior of every animal during each shift. Reports anticipated need of veterinary care for sick or injured animals.
  • Utilizes animal medical sheets throughout each shift to ensure animals are medicated appropriately.
  • Performs regular "walk throughs" of facility during each shift to ensure cleanliness and maintain other needs.
  • Ensures that proper training/direction is provided to volunteers and program participants that assist with any care or maintenance each day.
  • Assists in stocking food and/or cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Janitorial duties include but are not limited to; laundry, dishes, washing windows, emptying trash, cleaning general shelter grounds, and sweeping/mopping public areas.
  • Promptly communicates any repair, maintenance or supply need to the supervisor on duty.
  • Develops a basic knowledge of the HSCC's standard operational procedures to include guidelines and protocols for the safe handling of animals.
  • Assists other staff members and the public with handling animals, and keeping both administrative and non-administrative areas of the shelter clean/organized.
  • Maintains the daily ability to handle multiple tasks with a sense of urgency, in a busy workplace environment.
  • Understands, and demonstrates daily, humane care and treatment of animals.
  • Understands the regular risks of exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, dust, noise, animal feces, bites, scratches, etc.
  • Follows organizational dress code.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work hours/schedule will vary.

Other Responsibilities as Needed:

  • Updates database information and answers phones on a daily basis.
  • Knowledge of multi-line phone system with the ability to provide assistance with the customer's questions or provide customers with other options/resources.
  • Greet and assist customers at the front door with general information, or any other questions they may have.
  • Must be able to provide customers with correct information regarding services offered through the organization.

Requirements:

  • Must have genuine respect and compassion for animals.
  • High School Diploma, GED or higher.
  • A background check is required prior to hire.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable form of transportation.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Availability of weekdays, weekends, some evenings and holidays.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Minimum of entry level skills with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn basic administration of animal medications/vaccinations.
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Regularly required to stand, walk, kneel, and bend.
  • Working alone or with minimal supervision. Must be self-motivated.
  • Patience and tact when working with difficult and/or emotional people.
  • Treating people and animals in a pleasant, courteous and professional manner.
  • Work effectively with individuals and colleagues from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Must follow company guidelines and procedures regarding COVID-19.
  • Must provide a current negative COVID-19 test result at time of hire.
