Location: Chambersburg
Availability of Position: ASAP
Schedule: Seasonal – Up to 40 hours per week, Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.: November 18-December 24, 2022
Reporting Relationship: Corps Officer
Salary and Grade: $10.00 per hour
Position Overview:
For over 131 years, The Salvation Army’s red kettles, from around the world, have been linked to the Christmas season and to compassion for our neighbors in need. As this season is quickly approaching, we want to be sure we can get help to those who need it the most! It is primarily through donations received during the Christmas season that we are successful in helping those we are called to serve in our community, year-round. Our Kettle Workers will stand at locations throughout the area, ringing the bell while collecting these vital donations.
Responsibilities:
Description of Position:
- Ringing a bell for The Salvation Army to collect donations. Always ring the bell!!!
- Smile and greet customers entering and exiting location in a courteous and friendly manner. Wish people a “Merry Christmas.”
- Always have a pleasant attitude. Remember, you represent the spirit of Christmas and The Salvation Army. Smile, and be sure to say “thank you!”
- Ensure the “kettle” is never left unattended.
- Represent The Salvation Army in a manner that brings glory to God.
- Always use common sense.
- Be gracious, even with those who choose not to give. We don’t ask people to put money in the kettle, we just make it easy and fun for them to do so.
- Always stand at your kettle. No sitting unless you have a health requirement.
- Do not use your mobile phone unless you are on a break or there is an emergency.
- Never smoke or eat at the kettle.
- Limit your conversations to kettle-related topics. Please don’t discuss Salvation Army policy, positions and theology. Questions of this nature should be referred to Captain Chris Mauk.
Requirements:
- Ability to conduct job duties in accordance with the ministry of The Salvation Army and its Christian principles.
- Ability to work flexible hours/shifts.
- Great people skills and retail and customer service experience a plus.
- Dependable transportation and phone.
- Neat appearance, proper attire is layered clothing for warmth.
- Ability to stand for extended periods in outside weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Willing to submit to a background check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
- Must have an understanding of and appreciation for the Mission of The Salvation Army.
