Greater Amsterdam School District (GASD) currently seeks a full-time, 12-month, Keyboard Specialist for the District Office.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

The work involves the performance of a variety of standardized clerical tasks and the full-time or substantial part-time operation of the equipment requiring the manipulating of an alphanumeric keyboard to produce printed copy. Specific duties vary with the needs of the department. Procedures are usually fixed but detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments. Work is reviewed by checking completed work, by periodic or spot checks, or other steps in the clerical process. The incumbent does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate Degree in Secretarial Science or related field and one year of clerical experience which involved typing and taking dictation; OR,
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of clerical experience which involved typing and taking dictation; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.

Having fluency in English and Spanish is highly preferred, but not a requirement.

The final candidate appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination for the title above and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for the City of Amsterdam to obtain a permanent appointment.
