POSITION SUMMARY

The Kitchen Helper will be assisting cooks in the preparation of meal ingredients and in the organization of merchandise form all vendors. It will also assist on the cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS
1. All employees shall meet Compliance/Privacy Regulations and attend at a minimum one (1) hour of Compliance/Privacy educational training annually, as required by Independent Living Systems.

2. All employees shall meet Risk Management Regulations and attend at the minimum one (1) hour of Risk Management education and training within the first thirty (30) days of employment and as required by law or Independent Living Systems; and, for that non-physician in clinical or direct care delivery services, annually thereafter.

3. All employees if duly licensed in the State of employment, and said license is part of the requirement of their position with Independent Living Systems, shall maintain in good standing and current state licensure.

4. All employees are required to maintain confidentiality, protect privacy, comply with PHI regulations, and report violations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Receives merchandise from all vendors, checks for expiration dates, dented cans, or damaged products. Checks order for accuracy and store as needed in dry, refrigerator or freezer, as necessary.
  • Rotate merchandise according to the FIFO rule.
  • Help in the preparation of foods to the specifications of the client and/or diet
  • Adjusts food items to accommodate clients/guests with allergies or specific diets concerns
  • Ensures proper food service temperature as required by the Florida Department of Health
  • Adhere to recipes as written
  • Communicate with Kitchen Supervisor to order ingredients and spices as needed on a timely manner
  • Operates various kitchen appliances, such as blender, oven, grill, stand mixer, etc.
  • Portions, arranges, and garnishes food based on recipes and/ or client preferences/allergies
  • Assists cooks during the food assembly process
  • Prepares any necessary sauces or accompaniments before meal service begins/or delivery
  • Cleans and maintains kitchen clean after production has ended
  • Communicates with Kitchen Supervisor about how to improve meal service
  • Alters dishes based on consumer suggestions or requirements
  • Cleans food preparation areas as determined by company policies and Health Department Regulations
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen
  • Keep inventory, storage organized
  • Arrive on time daily following scheduled hours
  • Keep food preparation and serving areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food-handling practices
  • Observe and test foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, piercing them with utensils and taking food temperature
  • Observe weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment by cooks
  • Portion, arrange, and garnish food
  • Check all kitchen equipment is properly working
  • Substitute for or assist cooks during emergencies or rush periods or as needed
  • Clean and sanitize working area before start work and after finishing work
  • Be flexible with the schedule for any unforeseen emergencies/circumstances

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education:  High School Diploma (Preferred)

Minimum Experience:  1 year experience (Preferred)
Other:  Organizational Skills, Culinary Arts, Kitchen Equipment Knowledge, Creativity, Interpersonal Skills, Culinary Arts Training, Active SERV Safe Manager Certification

Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

This position may require work more than 40 hours per week and will require some evening and weekend work hours. Must be willing to travel independently with occasional overnight travel.
