Labor/Custodial Assistant

Summary

Hope Ministries is a ministry within the Saint Anne Catholic Community Parish, operating under the sole proprietorship of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Saint Anne Hope Ministries’ mission is to provide assistance to those individuals and families in our area facing crisis, regardless of faith. That assistance may come in the form of food, clothing, medical aid, transportation, shelter or utility support.

The funding arm for Saint Anne Hope Ministries is the House of Hope Resale Shop, an upscale resale shop located at 955 S. Rand Road, Lake Zurich. The House of Hope is open six days per week for restocking, pricing and staging and open to the public four days per week Wednesday-Saturday 10 a.m.– 4 p.m. The Labor/Custodial Assistant will work only five days per week between Monday and Saturday.

The Labor/Custodial Assistant will report to the House of Hope Business Manager. This position will require no Sundays required and only occasional evenings. The Labor/Custodial Assistant will be responsible for ensuring facility is safe, department needs are fulfilled and the operational component of the store runs smoothly. Labor/Custodial Assistant will treat all volunteers and customers with dignity and respect and ensure all feel a sense of welcome while at the House of Hope.

General Responsibilities

• Evaluate the daily physical needs of all store departments and plan time to accommodate those needs
• Move and arrange furniture as needed
• Oversee loading of merchandise into vehicles, ensuring the safety of customer vehicles and safety of volunteers
• Handle waste management; ensure all garbage is removed from the store daily, break down all cardboard boxes and place in dumpsters
• Assist staff and volunteers with heavy bags, boxes and the like
• Attend key meetings with management and volunteers
• Work with intake volunteers on donation days
• Check daily on bathroom and kitchen cleanliness and restock supplies as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Advanced Responsibilities

• Trusted to be a store key holder; opening and closing the store when needed
• Coordinate third party moving contractor responsibilities when onsite

Skills

• Highly responsible and reliable
• Ability to work as part of a team and in a volunteer-based organization
• Ability to work with people

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and occasional nights if needed
• Ability to continuously move around all areas of the store on a daily basis, as well as physically move store merchandise
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Volunteer experience a plus

• Understanding Hope Ministries mission and how House of Hope fits within the mission
• Have access to work email account off-site and answer emails in a timely manner
• Support all volunteer activities
• Attend meetings
• Help maintain a safe and clean store
• Assist in volunteer recruitment and retention
• Provide insights on improving store operations

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
