Job Title: Labor & Employee Relations Manager

Description: Driving a comprehensive, strategic program of labor and employee relations for Long Beach Transit, the Manager of Employee and Labor Relations is a strategic Leader with the ability to resolve complex labor issues, research, organize information and provide analyses for a diverse workforce of represented and non-represented employees. Driven, determined, and self-disciplined to achieving results with experience in negotiations, the Labor & Employee Relations manager will oversee the grievance process and procedures, arbitration proceedings, and actively participates in contract negotiations for one of the largest public transportation agencies in California.

Location: Long Beach, CA

Salary: $118,958-136,675

Key Competencies & Characteristics:

  • Delivering principles and practices of employee and labor relations
  • Collaborating with the workforce in a union environment to further develop the overall environment of employee and labor relationships
  • Administering workers’ compensation law as it impacts personnel actions
  • Leading, consulting, coaching, influencing, and motivating represented and non-represented personnel
  • Analyzing labor, economic and operating trends and developments in labor and employee relations, and recommending new and innovative strategies to improve labor and employee relations
  • Demonstrating thorough understanding of collective bargaining, labor contract administration as well as CBAs
  • Drive, determination and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results
  • Maintaining and establishing standards of quality and accuracy
  • Assure policies and procedures are followed
  • Resolve complex labor relations problems & issues
  • Research, organize information, and provide analyses.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Labor, Employee or Industrial Relations business administration, public administration, industrial psychology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of labor relations experience, with at least 4 years involved in resolving grievances and actively serving on an organization’s negotiation team
  • Professional certification in an applicable field is preferred
