POSITION TITLE: Laboratory Assistant

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Laboratory Assistant will maintain laboratory inventory, order supplies, provide reagents, services and offer support to the Discovery and Research & Development team. The Laboratory Assistant will carefully perform a wide variety of laboratory-based tasks according to established written procedures under supervision of senior R&D Scientists and the Manager of R&D. The successful candidate has good laboratory dexterity, is willing to work in a clean room laboratory environment where lab coats, booties, gloves and aseptic technique is required. The successful candidate is well-organized and enjoys following detailed work instructions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Track and stock inventory supplies in the Discover and R&D Laboratories.

2. Maintain and order list of consumables for support of the Discover and R&D Laboratories

3. Washes laboratory glassware carefully and thoroughly using the automated dishwasher and by hand according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

4. Assists in the decontamination and cleaning of laboratory benches and equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other chore related activities.

5. Will be trained to operate pH meters, conductivity meters, balances, autoclaves and laboratory equipment.

6. May assist in preparing materials such as buffers, reagents, bacterial culture plates and broths, according to approved protocols and standard operating procedures for support of Product Development activities.

7. May assist Technical Operations with periodic maintenance on lab equipment, such as cleaning freezer and refrigerator filters and de-icing and act as liaison for the R&D/Discovery team for equipment-related issues. May also assist Technical Operations with environmental monitoring of the clean room lab area, including particle counts, air sampling for viable particles, water sampling for bacteria and contact plates.

8. Follows all MMQCI’s protocols based on current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and International Organization for Standards (ISO) quality systems by consistently and accurately filling out appropriate paperwork and following appropriate procedures.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

1. High School Diploma, with an interest in working in a laboratory setting or Associate Degree in Biology/ Life Sciences or Chemistry.

2. Has experience demonstrating the ability to accurately perform a variety of procedures requiring fine motor skills with stringent attention to detail.

3. Experience working or taking classes in a laboratory setting using chemicals while wearing gloves and a lab coat is preferred.

4. Is well organized, follows instructions meticulously and enjoys precise, detailed work.

5. Strong work ethic; cheerful willingness to help the MMQCI team whenever and wherever needed, ability to multitask.

6. Must be a nonsmoker due to product contamination prevention requirements.
