This position will be in support of the Pharmacology Department. The successful candidate will work in the laboratory of Dr. Aviva Symes in the Department of Pharmacology at Uniformed Services University, Bethesda, MD, to develop novel therapeutics for Traumatic Brain Injury.

HJF is seeking a Laboratory Technician I or II to perform basic to intermediate laboratory procedures. Assists and supports supervisors with testing and experiments in various areas of a laboratory as needed. Uses some judgement to define and resolve problems and make recommendations.
Responsibilities:
  • Performs laboratory testing and experiments. Complies with laboratory quality assurance and quality control plans and procedures.
  • Assists with data organization, analysis, and interpretation. Prepares data for inclusion in technical reports, presentation, summaries, manuscripts, and protocols.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and performs general monitoring, calibration, and preventative maintenance.
  • Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories to potential inventions and products.
  • Documents testing results and records observations in accordance with good practice quality guidelines and regulations (GxP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and protocol requirements,
  • May assist with training of laboratory staff and managing and ordering laboratory supplies.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Technical knowledge of scientific disciplines.
  • Knowledge of and skill in laboratory technique and handling biological and chemical hazards and their safe use and disposal.

Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Education and Experience
Level I
  • Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required

Level II
  • Associate's Degree, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required
