Position Summary:
A Laundry Assistant is responsible for performing the tasks of washing, drying, repairing, distributing and storing laundry and linens used in the facility. Work will include daily washing and repairing chores and disinfecting and keeping work area clean.

Education Requirements:
A Laundry Assistant must be able to read, write and follow written and oral instructions in English. A Laundry Assistant must complete ongoing in-service training requirements.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Sorting and cleaning all laundry in accordance with standard procedures
  • Inspecting and repairing damaged linens, towels or other items which are routinely laundered
  • Pre-treat fabrics necessary
  • Understanding and operating laundry equipment
  • Transfer items from the washer to the dyer and removing items form dryers
  • Iron the personal clothing of residents when needed
  • Hanging finished garments on hangers where appropriate, and/or folding or stacking garments
  • Stock linen closets and distribute personal clothing to the resident’s room
  • Label the residents personal clothing
  • Clean and disinfect the laundry room at the end of the shift: sweep floors, scrub floors, and disinfects the washer and dryers
  • Obtain and take down dirty laundry bags
  • Performs other related duties as directed
