JOB TITLE: Director of Curriculum, Professional Learning and Systems Development


JOB DURATION:
One year, temporary position from July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024


REPORTS TO:
Superintendent


JOB FUNCTION:
The Director shall serve as an instructional leader throughout the district


COMPENSATION
: Salary range $90,000-$95,000 plus benefits


DISTRICT DESCRIPTION:
Benzie Central Schools serves nearly 1,300 students K-12 and encompasses over 350 square miles in the beautiful terrain of Northwest Michigan. There are six villages in the district which is also convenient to the cities of Traverse City, Manistee, and Frankfort. Benzie Central has 3 elementary schools serving grades K-5, a growing Early Childhood Program, and a middle/high school serving grades 6-12. There is also an alternate setting/virtual and F2F middle and high school situated near the high school serving grades 6-12.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide leadership and direction in the ongoing planning, implementation, evaluation and review of the district’s curriculum and instructional services and state and federal programs.
  • Assist the Superintendent in long term planning related to curriculum, instruction, staff development and assessment.
  • Coordinate the planning and implementation of district professional learning.
  • Support principals in ongoing teacher evaluation and coaching.
  • Develop and maintain systems related to curriculum and instruction, data collection and analysis, and other district needs.
  • Research, model and support the implementation of best practices in instructional delivery and best practices.
  • Attend relevant meetings and conferences related to curriculum and instruction.
  • Oversee, direct and evaluate district instructional coaches.
  • Monitor changes is State law and Michigan Department of Education regulations and make district level adjustments as necessary.
  • Support building principals and instructional coaches in planning and implementing PLCs and other instruction/data based meetings.
  • Present to the Board as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Support the implementation of a systematic multi-tiered systems of support approach.
  • Oversee the implementation of the teacher evaluation system.
  • Supervise and chair district level meetings as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Work with the Finance Director to complete grant applications and required follow up reporting.
  • Support the planning and implementation of New Teacher Orientation and new teacher development.
  • Create and maintain systems to determine professional development needs based on student achievement and other data points.
  • Maintain the budget for instruction related line items.
  • Provide support in staffing and assignment decisions.
  • Participate in the negotiation process as requested by the Superintendent.
  • Serve as the district Title IX Coordinator
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.


ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION:


  • Experience leading curriculum development and selection
  • Experience leading professional development
  • Experience overseeing data and assessment
  • Understanding of learning progression


PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:


Required:


  • Master’s degree or higher in Education Leadership, Administration or Curriculum and Instruction
  • Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • 5+ years of experience as a K-12 administrator
  • 5+ years of experience as a K-12 teacher


Preferred:


  • Experience as an administrator at the District level
