Department Summary
Teach North Texas is an undergraduate secondary science, mathematics and computer science teacher education program at UNT and is one of the first 50+ national UTeach replication sites. In this program, experienced secondary teachers teach and train pre-service secondary teachers in the implementation of innovative best practices.
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) or Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary
The Teach North Texas (TNT) program at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a full time, 9-month lecturer position to serve as a Master Teacher with a specialization in science. The start date for this position will be August 1st. Duties of the Master Teacher include but are not limited to: teaching courses in the professional development sequence for pre-service teachers in secondary science; specifically, the introductory course, Secondary Teacher Preparation I: Inquiry Approached to Teaching (Step 1), conducting practice-teaches, Mursion teaching simulation observations, and in-field observations with timely feedback given to TNT students for all courses; participation in Mentor Match each semester (Saturdays), collaboration across the curriculum with colleagues and district partners; and other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree at the time of appointment and at least three years of successful secondary public-school teaching experience in science. Required qualifications include an undergraduate science degree and/or a minimum of 18 graduate content hours in science. A valid Texas teaching certificate is required as well as at least 3 years teaching from a deep understanding of the student centered 5E methodology. Applicants must have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and experience supervising preservice and/or in-service teachers.
Preferred Qualifications
Teach North Texas graduates and experience coordinating professional development such as Induction, and Mentor Match are preferred. Experience with the UTeach model and/or specifically the TNT program are preferred.
