Position Summary
The License Exempt Provider (LEP) Project Coach supports unrelated license-exempt childcare providers to successfully complete federally required on-site health and safety visits that occur in the child’s home within the required timelines. The LEP Project Coach also connects providers and families to local resources, programs and services for the children and families. This role also assists and encourages providers to participate in local trainings and peer networking opportunities to increase their social connections and knowledge of child development and care.
Travel requirement
This role requires travel on a regular basis within an assigned geographic area of Michigan. While there is a focus on the Detroit area, collaboration with team members to meet the travel needs of the program is essential. This may include travel with a colleague or outside of your assigned area from time to time. Interested candidates are encouraged to discuss travel with the hiring manager if invited to interview.

Requirements:Duties and Responsibilities:

- Implement a culturally appropriate outreach plan, designed to educate license-exempt providers and families about what to expect during home visits (utilizing multiple modes of contact) and increase the provider and family’s comfort level scheduling home-care setting visits.
- Conduct announced and unannounced health and safety visits with unrelated license-exempt providers in the child's home setting at times when care is occurring. Conduct follow-up coaching visits and second attempts with providers as needed.
- Confirm that providers have access to MiRegistry, Michigan’s Professional Development Registry, and the Child Development and Care (CDC) billing portal and aid in troubleshooting access issues as needed.
- Provide resources related to concrete needs, equipment requests, and developmental concerns about the children in care, as requested by the provider.
- Support providers to develop an initial Individualized Plan which includes elements such as: emergency contact information, disaster planning, etc.
- Offer and make referrals to community-based resources and services and provide follow-up support to assure that successful connections have been made between community agencies and the provider (or family).
- Refer providers (and families) to opportunities for socialization, peer networking and community engagement.
- Offer and assist all providers in identifying professional development (training) opportunities that meet their interests and needs.
- Complete all required case documentation and reporting within required timelines.
- Actively participate in team meetings designed to ensure successful and consistent state-wide implementation and collaboration among Coaches throughout the state.
- Adapt to and be flexible in a workday schedule to accommodate provider care times and participate in on-going Technical Assistance and support. This includes periodically working an extended workday and engaging in travel throughout the state of Michigan.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Associates Degree or equivalent work experience in social work or related field such as early childhood education, psychology, or family studies.
- At least one (1) year of experience in the early childhood field, including experiences such as:
- Working directly with families, including training, coaching and/or mentoring adult learners from a diverse background.
- Working directly with license-exempt child care providers.
- Conducting home visits or working as a home visitor for a community program.
- Providing subsidized child care either as licensed or a license-exempt provider.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail while managing multiple tasks, projects, and timelines.
- Ability to use data and analytical skills to proactively identify opportunities, set priorities, and solve problems.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to partner with racially and ethnically diverse colleagues and community members.
- Ability to utilize all technology associated with the LEP Project at highly proficient level.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe and web-based applications.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and vehicle or other ability of travel throughout Michigan, including periodic overnight travel.
Physical Requirements:
- Talking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to others accurately. (4-5 hours daily)
- Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound. (4-5 hours daily)
- Visual Acuity – Viewing objects with close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading. (7-8 hours daily)
- Office Setting - Sedentary work in which exerting up to 10 pounds of force is occasional and a negligible amount of force is frequently or constantly used to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
- Remote work with occasional travel within Michigan or to other geographical areas for projects, ECIC meetings and to meet the needs of the organization.
