The Research Services and Information Literacy Librarian oversees Schewe Library’s reference services and teaches information literacy. The Librarian is a crucial contributor to a small library staff. In addition to having primary responsibility for reference and research services, this individual is part of a team involved in information literacy education, a required part of the College curriculum. This position is a full-time, twelve-month staff position with faculty status (non-tenure-track). The successful candidate will be passionate about helping students learn to use information accurately and effectively, as well as supporting all members of the community to access research materials.

Essential Functions:

The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. Daily needs and special projects may cause the weighting of any job duty to fluctuate for shorter or longer periods of time, but over the course of an academic year the below weightings should reflect the employee's work.

  • Assist patrons with reference and research support.
  • Teach several sections of the one-credit information literacy course, IC 102: Leveling Up in the Library, in the fall and spring semesters. (Each class has a maximum of 10 students, and significant 1-on-1 time is built into the course structure.)
  • Collaborate with faculty to provide course-specific research support.
  • Participate in collection development, collection deselection, and policy development with library colleagues.
  • Produce educational resources online and in print.
  • Engage in scholarly or creative work consistent with faculty status.
  • Provide service to the Illinois College and library communities.
  • Maintain currency through ongoing professional development activities.
  • Attend library and campus events to promote the library and its services.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited institution (MLS/MLIS).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Enthusiasm for working with students, faculty, staff, and the public
  • Intercultural competency: ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional librarian experience
  • Experience delivering instruction and reference services in an academic library
