General Statement of Duties
Performs routine work providing maintenance and upkeep of the library and basic library
duties.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for circulation and shelving materials. Work is
performed under regular supervision of the Library Manager.
Illustrative Examples of Work
- Checks materials in and out.
- Provides assistance to patrons.
- Registers patrons for library services.
- Issues new or replacement library cards.
- Provides assistance to patrons working with library equipment.
- Assists patrons with general questions and locating materials.
- Collects and records financial transactions.
- Shelves returned material; reads shelves to maintain order.
- May assist with preparation for story times.
- Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Recruitment and Selection Guidelines
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to perform intermediate functions on the computer including the internet,
- Ability to use and assist others in the use of office equipment.
- Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and ability to shelve books
and other library materials.
- Ability to count and record money accurately.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational support functions of
pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and
repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force
of force constantly to move objects.
