Collaborates with and supports employees who provide direct service to citizens and contributes dynamic leadership within the Management Team, working in concert with Director of Libraries and Historical Resources. PS Manager is accountable for oversite of branch operations, support to and supervision of branch Managers; contributes to strategic planning to determine level of service, required resources and budget; serves as project manager for major initiatives; facilitates team member participation in setting goals. Contributes to a culture characterized by respect and commitment to excellent service.

Job Description:
Customer Service

Serves as customer champion to engage staff in providing excellent service to library users and potential users: access to information resources and technology; programs for learning, enrichment and entertainment; outreach activities; community engagement; response to customer concerns; library environment; evaluation of services.

Collaborates with and provides direct support to branch Managers and employees to implement the library mission through practices and policies. Assists with scheduling staff at public service and support locations.

Promotes and participates in trendspotting for innovation and continuous improvement on behalf of customers.

Administrative

Serves as the Libraries and Historical Resources administrator in the Director’s absence.

Collaborates with Director on implementation of communication, programming and community engagement strategies.

Facilitates Management Team efforts to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service to the community through strategic planning, goal-setting, and programmatic implementation of the business plan.

Evaluates and recommends new/revised policies and procedures to meet needs; facilitates review by Office of County Attorney and Safety/Risk; interprets policies and procedures for public and staff.

Manages and monitors department response to formal Public Records requests.

Participates in state and regional decision-making and information-sharing between libraries.

Communication

Acts as spokesperson to promote the mission and services of Libraries and Historical Resources in the community.

Prepares and presents oral, written and visual presentations to customers, staff and diverse public audiences.

Advances innovative communications through the website, social media, events, speakers, exhibits, publications.

Networks with other departments, partners, community agencies and organizations,

Staff Development

Participates in the selection, orientation and evaluation of key personnel; serves as a coach and mentor.

Facilitates relevant training opportunities for employees and teams.

Promotes an environment that encourages deep employee participation in decision-making and problem-solving.

Provides opportunities for continuing professional development for self and others.

Participates in cross training in other sections; works in public service points throughout the department.

Project Management

Creates, implements, and evaluates special projects, services, and programs.

Designs and implements new models for effective service delivery; initiates and leads experimental trials.

About You

Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Library and Information Science by the American Library Association with six (6) years progressively responsible experience in public libraries, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working, leading and coaching in a team environment preferred.

Job Competencies:
Advanced interpersonal skills with ability to lead and mentor others within a busy, evolving customer service environment.

Knowledge of public library and organizational practices; ability to translate knowledge to operational and strategic planning.

Demonstrated evidence of strong project management skills; ability to complete complex and challenging assignments.

Excellent writing and verbal communication skills; ability to represent Sarasota County Government and department to individual external and internal customers, co-workers, diverse stakeholder groups, large audiences, media reps, community partners and others.

Knowledge of change management practices; ability to coordinate, communicate about and implement change.

Skill in using advanced software applications; knowledge of computer hardware basics, office and multi-media equipment; ability to demonstrate and teach others to use the information resources and tools in various formats.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Pay: $71,489.60 - $96,366.40
