Princeton University Library seeks an energetic person to work as an assistant for the Library Shipping and Receiving Department. This position is responsible for making scheduled daily deliveries of library materials, books and other miscellaneous items within Firestone and the branch libraries, pickup and deliver materials to Forrestal Annex and ReCap and pick up mail and special services packages at the U.S. Post Office as needed.
Critical to the position is ensuring the integrity, accuracy, safety and confidentiality of mail handled by Library Shipping & Receiving Department, in accordance with USPS mailing standards, mail safety standards, internal protocols, Princeton policies and standards.
Responsibilities:- Prepare deliveries for the branch libraries by sorting newspapers, periodicals, interdepartmental and first-class mail into their respective delivery boxes for the 12 branch libraries
- Sort all mail and boxes of books that are picked up from the branch libraries during the delivery of library materials
- Pack books for branch libraries, Library services (ILS & Borrow Direct) and ship using carriers such as UPS, FedEx and USPS
- Assist with running the automated mailroom equipment
- Sort and distribute first class mail, campus mail, packages and books to the units in Firestone Library and 693 Alexander Road
- Assist with pickups of materials from donor's, as needed
- Receive incoming shipments from vendors
- Receive equipment, books, and library supplies shipped to 693 Alexander Road and distribute.
- Assist with the upkeep of library delivery trucks, van and golf cart.
- High school diploma or GED
- 1+ years experience
- Valid driver's license and experience driving a 12-20 ft. cube truck
- High level of customer service skills and the ability to work independently
- Computer skills including email and windows based operating systems
- Ability to lift 75 lbs
- This requires lift or carry up to 40lbs frequently (67% of the workday) and up to 75 lbs occasionally (33% of the workday)
- Ability to move wooden carts weighing between 500-600 lbs.
- This requires push or pull using forces up to 40 lbs. frequently (67% of the workday) and up to 75 lbs. occasionally (33% of the workday)
- Ability to operate a walk behind forklift
- Stand or walk 2-4 hours at a time for 6-8 hours per day or Sit for up to 2 hours per day
- Repetitively use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling
- Bend, squat, kneel frequently (66% of the work day), climb stairs, reach overhead, or lift overhead occasionally (33% of the workday)
- Lift up to 40 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead
- Lift up to 75 pounds in a range of motions from floor to shoulder height
- Work on a loading dock and outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions including shoveling snow from the loading dock area when necessary during winter months
- Possess full range of body motions and physical agility
