The Litigation Paralegal provides paralegal support to the Dispute Resolution and Employment team and interacts with the Risk Management Team. The duties focus on employment and professional liability defense. The position will also have responsibility for assisting the Care Group and Health Plan teams in the Law Department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate from ABA approved program, and five or more years of litigation experience or other relevant degree and experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills, self-motivated, and detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver high-quality work on a deadline.
  • Sound knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate as well as work independently.
  • Manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in employment claims and litigation, medical malpractice claims and litigation, and other medical-legal issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electronic medical records, including Epic.
  • Knowledge of eDiscovery procedures.
  • Demonstrated life-long learner.

Accountabilities:

  • Manage internal investigations of confidential employment and professional liability matters, demand letters, administrative agency charges, and other complaints. This includes collecting and reviewing relevant files, interviewing supervisors and other potential witnesses, and preparing draft position statements with attorney supervision.
  • Prepare and compile documents responsive to agency requests.
  • Support litigation. Manage document production and discovery requests. Interview potential witnesses, gather relevant information from various sources, and provide accurate factual summaries to supervising attorney.
  • Gather and produce information responsive to information requests related to regulatory compliance, government subpoenas, investigations, and audits.
  • Manage the Legal Hold Notice process and function as liaison with supervising attorney, outside counsel, and HealthPartners’ internal business contacts to issue Legal Hold Notices, including management of document production. Update Notice as required.
  • Perform other legal and factual research as directed.
  • Coordinate responses to subpoenas. Communicate with outside attorneys regarding requests for employee testimony in criminal and civil cases; gather background information and documents as directed by supervising attorney; provide employee and administrative support to ensure compliance with HealthPartners internal policies.
  • Track dispute resolution metrics and revise reports accordingly.
  • Respond to clinic calls requesting medical-legal advice.
  • Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel, the Deputy General Counsel for Dispute Resolution and Employment, or other members of the Law Department.
