We are seeking Fitness Instructors to become certified as a LIVESTRONG at the Y instructor. Come join the movement and change lives!

LIVESTRONG at the Y, is a 12-week evidence based program designed for cancer survivors who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and or disease. This is a FREE program for the participants. Participants work with YMCA staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem.

A high school diploma, or its equivalent, and 2-4 years experience leading/facilitating classes and working with special populations is preferred . A minimum of 18 years of age. Knowledge of basic health and wellness principles and exercises, as well as healthy living behaviors is required. Knowledge of form and technique of strength training exercises and function of cardio equipment preferred. Experience or ability to work with and address the unique needs and concerns of cancer survivors resulting from their diagnoses and treatments. Must have exceptional communication and organizational skills in order to support participants and maintain required documentation for program. Knowledge and experience with health behavior and challenges associated with making lifestyle changes. Verbally provide clear concise directions and visually inspect classroom for safety. Ability to maintain confidentiality of program participants. Maintain current certifications in CPR AED, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention and New Employee Orientation or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Group Fitness or Personal Trainer certified as well as Livestrong Certified -or must obtain within 90 days of employment and prior to instructing instructing the course.
